Subject: Tune Req: Ffansi Ffarmwr
From: Chris in Wheaton

We're having a Welsh Family Heritage Day in Oak Park, Illinois in October and I agreed to put together a little group to play while dances are taught to the attendees. I have found all the tunes requested for the dances, except for Ffansi Ffarmwr. I have the Welsh Dance Society cd, so we can know how it generally sounds, but I was hoping that someone could point me to the abc's or other music source.
Thanks for any help given, Chris in Wheaton

You can buy it here:
http://homepage.virgin.net/dawn.webster/publications.html
in a book for £7.50. Did you find that?

It's not at JC's or Web Wide ABC Index.

If it's the same as "Farmer's Fancy" there's a version here Fred's Tunebook and another here Boosey & Hawkes

Sorry, I don't have "Dawnsiau'r 20fed Ganrif" and it isn't in the other WFDS publications that I do have. Pity - I could have picked it up at the Eisteddfod last week ...

This isn't a dance or tune that I know (at least, I don't think I do), so I've been asking around. From some comments I've received, it sounds like Ffansi Ffarmwr is the name of the dance, not the tune, but it may have transferred one to the other in popular use. Rhiain Bebb, who plays for two of our better dance teams tells me: "Gellir defnyddio unrhyw jig 32 bar. Mae’r Gymdeithas Ddawns yn awgrymu ‘Nant y Glyn’ allan o‘r llyfr ‘Cadw Twmpath’ fel enghraifft." Thought I'd just give Chris some practice. Translated: "Any 32 bar jig will do. The Dance Society suggests (the tune) 'Nant y Glyn' from the book 'Holding a Twmpath' for example."

If I find out more, I'll let you know.
