Subject: RE: Feminist Comedy Music From: PoppaGator Date: 11 Aug 05 - 04:22 PM Hey, there's comedy in anything if you put your mind to it. Also, any feminist with a sense of humor is OK with me. |

Subject: RE: Feminist Comedy Music From: rich-joy Date: 11 Aug 05 - 06:39 PM The VERY excellent West Australian duo, DORIS, could probably come under this category - an absolute hoot! (but they also do sensitive and thoughtful and beautiful material) : Jane Cornes and Margie Hanley (and yes, I think they have a CD out) ... Cheers! R-J |
|
Subject: RE: Feminist Comedy Music From: Margret RoadKnight Date: 11 Aug 05 - 07:45 PM "Daughters of Feminists" (referred to above) was written by the BRILLIANT Canadian singer/ songwriter Nancy White, any of whose CDs are well worth acquiring. |

Subject: RE: Feminist Comedy Music From: GUEST,Female comedy writer Date: 11 Aug 05 - 08:38 PM Comedy rules! more women should get into it. Its still a bit of a boys club im afraid. Men often say that they like funny women but what they often mean is...'as long as they're not funnier than me'. A bit like David Brent from The Office : 'I'd like a woman who is as intelligent as me...or maybe a bit less intelligent'. |
|
Subject: RE: Feminist Comedy Music From: bobad Date: 11 Aug 05 - 08:41 PM Feminist comedy = oxymoron? |
|
Subject: RE: Feminist Comedy Music From: GUEST,Female comedy writer Date: 11 Aug 05 - 08:46 PM I think i know what you're getting at, you mean the man hating Jo Brand variety of comedy. I think that can be too destructive. I am a woman and I write comedy but I wouldn't describe it as feminist. Its mainly satire, taking the piss. |
|
Subject: RE: Feminist Comedy Music From: bobad Date: 11 Aug 05 - 08:50 PM Intelligent satire - now that's the stuff of good comedy, IMHO. |

Subject: RE: Feminist Comedy Music From: GUEST,Chris B (Born Again Scouser) Date: 12 Aug 05 - 03:04 PM Q: How many feminists does it take to change a lightbulb? A: Three - one to change the bulb and two to co-edit the collection of essays on how it feels. |

Subject: RE: Feminist Comedy Music From: greg stephens Date: 12 Aug 05 - 05:30 PM Q: How many feminists does it take to change a light bulb? A: THAT'S NOT FUNNY!!!!! |
|
Subject: RE: Feminist Comedy Music From: PoppaGator Date: 12 Aug 05 - 05:42 PM Good one, Greg... And don't even suggest that a feminist might not be ABLE to change a light bulb without a man's help! |

Subject: RE: Feminist Comedy Music From: GUEST,Grateful Fred Date: 12 Aug 05 - 08:24 PM If you are of the Judeo-Christian persuasion, or are just open-minded about religion, check out the Book of Judith in the Bible. (The Apocrypha if your Bible is based on the KJV.) Judith is just one of the most bodacious kick-ass heroes in history. And she's a woman in what is usually regarded as a "male dominated religion." I think maybe the awareness of Judith was suppressed by a lot of church bureaucrats for a long time. But check it out, you won't be sorry. |

Subject: RE: Feminist Comedy Music From: Ebbie Date: 12 Aug 05 - 08:44 PM Loved that 'They Sent a Wummen' song, Dick. I want to hear it again in October. Do you know who wrote it? |
