Who says the September Knockholt was wet. Considering local climatic conditions that weekend it was almost miraculously dry. As for the standard of the entertainment most of us are there for a laugh(westcountry buffoons included).I felt I must have a say having read some of the mistruths placed here .Thankyou for recomending I look in woodsie so I can put the record straight

It angers me to read bellyachers like Trenchfoot complaining that knockholt organisers cannot control the weather.In my day it was regarded as a manly right of passage to survive a wet knockholt.The survivors would be proudly honoured that monday at the Crown and Cushion and those who didnt survive quickly forgotten. Itwas a mans life in the folkmob then and not a bloody marquee in sight. God I need a cold shower

But I agree this trechfoot should look elsewhere for toilet humour. The folkmob do not provide it!

Trenchfoot - You pay £4 per night (to the farmer) to pitch your tent/caravan/camper (irespective of the number of occupant). The rest is up to you.

The Folkmob provide the portaloos & firewood (2 tons of top quality logs)

There is also a MASH type Korean War type tent which is erected in the field, unfortunately although it has served us well for a few years, it is now a bit worse for wear and we are looking to replace it.

Toilet humour? well I suggest that you have a toilet mind and need to flush it out.

I do not know where you hardy folk were pitched . I was very disapointed by the lack of wet weather facilities at this Knockholt festival.After investing four pounds a night to attend I EXSPECT MORE THAN A RODENT GNAWED 1930S ARMY TENT FOR SHELTER IN TERENTIAL RAIN.As for the entertainment the reunited brothers grimm GINGER AND WOODEN regailed us with a bombardment of toilet humour[last regurgitated in their nursery days] and some buffoon from the westcountry shouted whilst effeminately prancing round the fire.Enfusiastically recieved on the strength him not being seen for a while .One wonders if these people are serious enough to be allowed space at as prestigious event as Knockholt heralds itself

sorry to all about our truncated visit, but us leopards go all to peices when we get wet. I think I went through the chair because I've been practising some 'heavy rock' lately, Girl Friday probably went over the ropes because she forgot her lines! The leopard cubs were a bit knackered as well!

Curiously Lower Stoke did not flood, so the problem of my flood defences being in the garage but me in Knockers did not arise.

Sorry I missed out, but was at Deal Shanty Festival, same as last year. Had none of the downpours in Deal, although it did rain a bit saturday night, however our home in Maidstone took a bit of a battering. At least I'm insured!

I enjoyed it loads, even though I only arrived on Friday!

Strange hoe everywhere else within about 2 miles of the field were flooded and had storms for 3 - 4 hours, yet we only had a 45 minute downpour and then a loverlee warm night.

Special thanks to Richard (B) and Alfie for some really excellent stuff.

What a splendid pissup that was!

Glorious weather (except for the downpour early Sat nite) but it dried out and out we came again.

Regrettably Girl Friday injured herself taking a purler over a guyrope, and simultaneously Mumblin Len sat right through a chair like a cartoon character into a barrel so their set was truncated.

But an excellent time was had by all, I think. My throat is mullered, but I sang from Weds to Sat (Sun 2am) and only repeated 3 songs.

So many thanks again to the organisers.

Will there be blackmail photos again soon?

Tone Deaf Leopard played Faversham Hop
Festival. Comes in handy that hand cranking song ! Won us a whole new fan base. Lot of serious stuff being performed. Think we were a welcome respite. We have had our critics in the past but , were for the first time , heckled by a dog ! Hope to visit the folk club one night.

In answer to your question you can wear black wellies to do the Isicathulo.
This form of dance was developed by poor blacks working in gold mines during apartheid.
They only had access to black wellington boots.. so it really is the traditional footwear to use.
However,in recent years the Gum Boot Dancers of Soweto have enjoyed a
number of cultural exchanges with English & Welsh naturist Morris dancers.
They said in the Uk more loosely fitting black wellies are associated with certain activities involving sheep (which I can't go into in any detail here because this is a family site)
Suffice to say I think the use of green wellies may be advisable Richard if you plan to Morris dance in the buff at Knockholt over the weekend.

I think I can persuade my brother-in-law to dogsit from Weds to Fri, and my daughter to come all the way from Grottingham to sit from Fri until Sun AM, and I am going to have to be off at sparrowfart on the Sunday to go to (and take daughter for moral support to) my mother-in-law's 90th birthday party, showered and in my best bib and tucker!

All I need is a dogsitter who can last from Weds to Sun - and I have to leave really early Sun AM to go to my mother-in-law's 90'th birthday (!).

I at least one new true folk song (UK trad), a number of things that are nearly folk (one sort of new country, some in the style of the tradition, one US trad turned into English(!) at least one from the "folk revival") and a couple of hippie wave things.

Make that 40 hours by the campfire this time round!!
