Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: GUEST,Richard Bridge with no cookie Date: 12 Aug 05 - 07:04 PM Whoopie whoopie whoopie. All I need is a dogsitter who can last from Weds to Sun - and I have to leave really early Sun AM to go to my mother-in-law's 90'th birthday (!). I at least one new true folk song (UK trad), a number of things that are nearly folk (one sort of new country, some in the style of the tradition, one US trad turned into English(!) at least one from the "folk revival") and a couple of hippie wave things. Make that 40 hours by the campfire this time round!! |

Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Richard Bridge Date: 23 Aug 05 - 11:26 AM I think I can persuade my brother-in-law to dogsit from Weds to Fri, and my daughter to come all the way from Grottingham to sit from Fri until Sun AM, and I am going to have to be off at sparrowfart on the Sunday to go to (and take daughter for moral support to) my mother-in-law's 90th birthday party, showered and in my best bib and tucker! The weather had better be nice! Woodsie, have you amended the essentials list yet...? |

Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: GUEST,Ken Date: 08 Sep 05 - 08:47 AM It's lovely here! I'm just applying some more sun lotion. Lazing in this field with my laptop and a cool pint of Adnam's ale listening to my mate tuning his mandolin. Heaven. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: GUEST,Nelson Mandela Date: 08 Sep 05 - 06:29 PM Dear Richard, In answer to your question you can wear black wellies to do the Isicathulo. This form of dance was developed by poor blacks working in gold mines during apartheid. They only had access to black wellington boots.. so it really is the traditional footwear to use. However,in recent years the Gum Boot Dancers of Soweto have enjoyed a number of cultural exchanges with English & Welsh naturist Morris dancers. They said in the Uk more loosely fitting black wellies are associated with certain activities involving sheep (which I can't go into in any detail here because this is a family site) Suffice to say I think the use of green wellies may be advisable Richard if you plan to Morris dance in the buff at Knockholt over the weekend. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Girl Friday Date: 09 Sep 05 - 12:27 PM Tone Deaf Leopard played Faversham Hop Festival. Comes in handy that hand cranking song ! Won us a whole new fan base. Lot of serious stuff being performed. Think we were a welcome respite. We have had our critics in the past but , were for the first time , heckled by a dog ! Hope to visit the folk club one night. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Girl Friday Date: 09 Sep 05 - 12:31 PM Forgot to say. Suffering from colds at present , so won't be camping, intend to be there on Saturday though ! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Richard Bridge Date: 11 Sep 05 - 02:49 PM What a splendid pissup that was! Glorious weather (except for the downpour early Sat nite) but it dried out and out we came again. Regrettably Girl Friday injured herself taking a purler over a guyrope, and simultaneously Mumblin Len sat right through a chair like a cartoon character into a barrel so their set was truncated. But an excellent time was had by all, I think. My throat is mullered, but I sang from Weds to Sat (Sun 2am) and only repeated 3 songs. So many thanks again to the organisers. Will there be blackmail photos again soon? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: GUEST,woodsie (can't be bothered to log on) Date: 11 Sep 05 - 06:42 PM I enjoyed it loads, even though I only arrived on Friday! Strange hoe everywhere else within about 2 miles of the field were flooded and had storms for 3 - 4 hours, yet we only had a 45 minute downpour and then a loverlee warm night. Special thanks to Richard (B) and Alfie for some really excellent stuff. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: GUEST,The Barden of England at work Date: 12 Sep 05 - 03:38 AM Sorry I missed out, but was at Deal Shanty Festival, same as last year. Had none of the downpours in Deal, although it did rain a bit saturday night, however our home in Maidstone took a bit of a battering. At least I'm insured! John Barden |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Richard Bridge Date: 12 Sep 05 - 03:51 AM Sorry to hear of damage to home John, never pleasant even if insured. Curiously Lower Stoke did not flood, so the problem of my flood defences being in the garage but me in Knockers did not arise. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Dipsodeb Date: 12 Sep 05 - 04:42 AM What a great time. Thanks to all those that came, especially Richard Bridge who kept us going with his fantastic songs and great guitar playing. It's going to take the rest of the week to get over all the excess booze. Hopefully we will be recovered enough to see you on Saturday Richard. ~Debs~ |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Richard Bridge Date: 12 Sep 05 - 10:52 AM Thank you Debs, but I really think the guitar star of the event was DK. He is SO good on the box. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: mumblin len Date: 12 Sep 05 - 05:04 PM sorry to all about our truncated visit, but us leopards go all to peices when we get wet. I think I went through the chair because I've been practising some 'heavy rock' lately, Girl Friday probably went over the ropes because she forgot her lines! The leopard cubs were a bit knackered as well! Len |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Kenneth Ingham Date: 13 Sep 05 - 05:40 AM I really enjoyed it. Highlight for me was that mad bloke called "Ginger John Jordan" |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: GUEST,woodsie Date: 13 Sep 05 - 01:17 PM Next one is "Summer Solstice Suprise" 21st June 2006 - 25th June 2006. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: The Barden of England Date: 13 Sep 05 - 01:49 PM Now that's much better. Doesn't interfere with my birthday or other such things. I'll mark my diary. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Kenneth Ingham Date: 14 Sep 05 - 07:26 AM What happened to that old geezer with the cap & ponytail who sings shanties? I missed him this time. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Dipsodeb Date: 14 Sep 05 - 02:24 PM He was headlining at a crucially important Shanty Festival at Pirates Swoop. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: GUEST,Trenchfoot Date: 14 Sep 05 - 04:28 PM I do not know where you hardy folk were pitched . I was very disapointed by the lack of wet weather facilities at this Knockholt festival. After investing four pounds a night to attend I EXSPECT MORE THAN A RODENT GNAWED 1930S ARMY TENT FOR SHELTER IN TERENTIAL RAIN.As for the entertainment the reunited brothers grimm GINGER AND WOODEN regailed us with a bombardment of toilet humour[last regurgitated in their nursery days] and some buffoon from the westcountry shouted whilst effeminately prancing round the fire.Enfusiastically recieved on the strength him not being seen for a while .One wonders if these people are serious enough to be allowed space at as prestigious event as Knockholt heralds itself |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Richard Bridge Date: 14 Sep 05 - 09:35 PM Sir: The British Army tents are the best in the world. Empah, and all that! Servant, etc. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: woodsie Date: 17 Sep 05 - 04:10 AM Trenchfoot - You pay £4 per night (to the farmer) to pitch your tent/caravan/camper (irespective of the number of occupant). The rest is up to you. The Folkmob provide the portaloos & firewood (2 tons of top quality logs) There is also a MASH type Korean War type tent which is erected in the field, unfortunately although it has served us well for a few years, it is now a bit worse for wear and we are looking to replace it. Toilet humour? well I suggest that you have a toilet mind and need to flush it out. The songs that myself and ginger performed were: I Saw A Bottle Of Tizer Bike Every Time I See Your Face Signed DC Hey Thwere Horsefly House Of The Rising Sun Could you point out which one was toilet humour please? They may have been out of tune and we both can't sing - but so what, we do know how to spell "torrential" and "expect" I sugguest you find somewhere else to park your seedy little arse next June. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Kenneth Ingham Date: 17 Sep 05 - 06:03 AM Woodsie! you can't spell either - I "sugguest" that it's spelt suggest irrespective of how many "occupant" "twhere" were. But I agree this trechfoot should look elsewhere for toilet humour. The folkmob do not provide it! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Richard Bridge Date: 18 Sep 05 - 08:59 AM So where are the blackmail fotos? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Girl Friday Date: 26 Sep 05 - 07:49 PM Ok... ownup.......hoo's got my priceless (save the Children £1.29) real pewter tankard ? |Are you holding it to ransom or something ? Aye wysh tu complayn abowt the pour standad ov spellyn on this fred. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Richard Bridge Date: 27 Sep 05 - 03:50 AM Last seen being used by you as a bludgeon on poor Mumblin' Len as he sat stuck in your demolished vintage plastic chair.... Only jokin! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: GUEST,simonb Date: 27 Sep 05 - 03:06 PM I missed all this, but I must attend next year, if only to underline the fact that there is no humour in my toilet, as anyone who has experienced it can attest |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: GUEST,knockholt veteran Date: 04 Oct 05 - 06:01 AM It angers me to read bellyachers like Trenchfoot complaining that knockholt organisers cannot control the weather. In my day it was regarded as a manly right of passage to survive a wet knockholt. The survivors would be proudly honoured that monday at the Crown and Cushion and those who didnt survive quickly forgotten. Itwas a mans life in the folkmob then and not a bloody marquee in sight. God I need a cold shower |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: Richard Bridge Date: 04 Oct 05 - 06:45 AM So where are the blackmail fotos then? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: woodsie Date: 04 Oct 05 - 01:37 PM Richard Phipps has a whole disc full of them - he wants £3 though! |
Subject: RE: Knockholt September 2005 From: GUEST,Grant Date: 05 Oct 05 - 09:22 AM Who says the September Knockholt was wet. Considering local climatic conditions that weekend it was almost miraculously dry. As for the standard of the entertainment most of us are there for a laugh(westcountry buffoons included).I felt I must have a say having read some of the mistruths placed here .Thankyou for recomending I look in woodsie so I can put the record straight |
