As if Traveler weren't enough to cement Tim O'Brien's place as one of the most creative, entertaining minds or our generation, he's already released two new CDs, both terrific acoustic productions of the quirky, rhythmic, ever-surprising music I've been spoiled to expect from O'Brien.

O'Brien, known mostly for mandolin and fiddle, takes the six-string for a fun ride in many of the cuts on Cornbread Nation – a CD chock full of "stuff" that, had country music truly evolved in this direction (as it should have!), I'd be a red-neck today. Instead, I'm just as pleased to remain a Red Knuckles-head.

Cornbread Nation is more in the vein of the Tim & Mollie CDs that I so enjoyed through the 90s.

Fiddler's Green is more reminiscent of the Crossings projects. Worth the price of the CD alone, John Doyle adds his take to the (now third) recording of Tim's Land's End. Timely for me, as I've been learning to play this challenge of timing and melody.

I highly recommend the pair of recordings!

If you're going to buy one or the other, I'd strongly suggest Cornbread Nation. It's stunningly good. It's laugh-right-out-loud good. It's walk away whistling good.

Yes!! Tim O'brien can do no wrong..
great voice, great instrumentalist,
and song writer...woo hoo!

How can ANYONE put out two albums
simultaneously??!! This guy is a
genius, and the combination of
players here is really the Cream
of the Crop!! They say this is
from Howdy Skies Music. Jerry
Douglas, the king of the Dobro
players, John Doyle, Stuart Duncan,
Dirk Powell, Dan Tyminski and
Darrell Scott--what a cast of
characters!! plus a few other
greats...Edgar Meyer on bass,
Seamus Egan (Solas)flute,
Chris Thile (Nickel Creek)
on mandolin.

The Fiddler's Green song is
not the one i expected..the
one about "down by the dock
side....dress me up in my
oil skins and jumpers..."
but this one is enchanting,
too.
Here is where to go to hear him:

Hey Mike,

Glad someone shares my enthusiasm!

Most folks here aren't familiar with Tim O'Brien. It is, after all, a folk music site, and Tim never played with the Irish Rovers, or The Brothers Four, or the Limelighters, or the Kingston Trio.

upon further listening, I predict that "Train On The Island" is going to be a favorite cover for bluegrass bands for years to come.

John Hardly, just to let you know, Tim has a lot of fans in Scotland, myself included. As north on the mainland as you can get!
