Subject: Lyr Req: They're talking war! Who's talking war? From: GUEST,2 Feathers Date: 17 Aug 05 - 10:45 PM Hunting for old song. Found reference in Google to an italian song, no author, "anonimo" from "the Socialist Songbook" but the words given do NOT match those I sang 60 or more years ago. My recollection of it is: They're talking war! Who's talking war The yellow press We know what for Oh, they sent us out to wallow in gas and mud While the rich stayed home making cash from blood Try it again; try it again; and we'll turn the tables then! They said to fight! Boy how they lied To save our homes, country and pride! Well we fought and we won as they said to do Now the banks got our homes and our country too! Try it again; try it again; and we'll turn the tables then! The search in Google brought me aan almost identical song from da "The socialist songbook" http://engstrom.best.vwh.net/songbook/frame.html their translation of it is: They're talking war. Who's talking war? The bosses press. We know what for. The sent us to wallow in mire and mud, While they coin gold out of workers' blood. Try it again - oh just Try it again - just once And well reverse our bayonets then. We want no war. Who wants no war? The working class. We want no war. We're tired of giving our lives in vain. If they want a war, we will sing this refrain. Try it again - oh just Try it again - just once And we'll reverse our bayonets then. From the words of the Italian version (Bayonets, mire and mud) it probably refers to WW I which would date it either about 1916 or 17; or else prior to WW II. I haven't found more of the source yet. If you have the complete song, or more of the source I would be interested in getting it. Who's talking w From: katlaughing Date: 18 Aug 05 - 10:40 AM Hi, 2Feathers, I see, by searching the DT and Forum, that you added the lyrics for this song in this thread, in 2001. That's the only reference i found to actual lyrics, so I hope someone else can help you with the rest of them. It sounds like a good one for our times! Thanks, kat |
