Unfortunately I have to be somwehere else second half of the week, but I am going to be in Whitby on Monday 22nd & Tuesday 23rd. I'd like to play some sessions then. Which ones are the best? I want instrumental or mixed sessions rather than singarounds, I'd be very happy to go to led sessions, or just jump in to an anarchic one... Any suggestions?

Hello mate! The official lunchtime and teatime sessions in places like the Fisherman's Rowing Club are usually very good. These are 'led' sessions so it's a good idea to see who is leading them as there may be a choice of three venues. Other than that, I could see you being happy enough in the main room of the Tap 'n' Spile, as it often mixes tunes and songs.

See you there, Les

Hello Lawrie,
I went up to Whitby yesterday for the session in the Conservative Club run by Tom McConville and Tom Napper. I enjoyed it even though it got far to busy with somewhere between 30 and 40 players turning up which was much more than the room could comfortably handle. Lots of familiar faces from various sessions in attendance as well as some new ones.
Sadly I can't make it tomorrow or Tuesday but if I could I would definitely go to the session on Tuesday at 1700 in the Fishermans Rowing Club run by Dave Mallinson which I would expect to have a lot of Irish. I've been at a few sessions with Mally and they are always good. He was at the Lamb a couple of weeks ago. Apart from that there's not much in the way of organised sessions in the programme that I fancy but I'm sure there will be some impromptu ones in various locations.

Incidentaly, the agent has confirmed that our job on the 3rd of next month is confirmed so hopefully we can arrange a bit of a practice.
I'm sure you will have a super time in Whitby.

When I went past on Saturday and Sunday there were a few people outside but no music. On Friday I went in when there were few musicians around anywhere - there was no music which is not surprising as there were few about - but there were signs plastered across every surface requesting no music be played. Definitely looked DEAD compared with other years from the outside. I know that none of the people I was with over the weekend had any thought of visiting when there were pllenty of other options.
