Happy Birthday!

Christopher Robin Milne (son of AA Milne)

born 8/21/1920
(d.4/20/1996)

Inside the yard at Buckingham Palace,
Christopher Robin went down on Alice.
"Dear little Christopher knows his stuff,
At 'Trying the Beard' and 'Noshing the Muff.'"
                Says Alice

"Christopher and Alice," DigTrad filename[ CHRISRBN

ALSO:
Little boy kneels by the sitting-room fire,
Little face flushed with abnormal desire.
Miaow! Miaow! Oh! What is that?
Christopher Robin is sodding the cat.

                 [thanx Joe Fineman]

Little boy sits at the foot of the stairs,
In his hand a bunch of white hairs,
Oh my, just fancy that,
Christopher Robin's castrated the cat.

The other two verses are far too filthy.

Pity poor Major C.R.Milne, Royal Engineers, who whenever reviewing a parade had to endure a thousand men all whistling They're Changing Guards...

personally speaking I find the end bit of House at Pooh Corner where CR goes off to public school, almost unbearably moving...the death of innocence.

Leaves Cordelia's death at the end of Lear in the starting blocks, when it comes to making me feel sad.

I think I've read all of CR's books. I suppose it would have seemed almost an unforgiveable burden to put on your son's shoulders - AA should have had the sense to change the poor sod's name. CR himself seems to have made a decent fist of life though - a brave soldier, a devoted family man, a useful member of the community.. ..i visited his bookshop at dartmouth a few times but somehow never saw him - not very inspiring - as bookshops go. lovely position right on the harbour.

all the best (by the way 21st was my wedding anniversary - 34 years this year - George jackson(soledad brother) was shot on the day we got married))

big al

Thanks for the biographical notes. I'll keep them. I agree; far worse than being named 'Sue' or even 'Efrem Zimbalist Jr' or (although actually one of my favorite names, a noted physicist and president of my university) Gaylord Probosco Harnwell. (True.)

A non Mudcat contributer adds:

Little boy kneels at the foot of the bed,
Lily-white hands caressing his head.
Oh my! Couldn't be worse!
Christopher Robin is shagging his nurse.
