Some may be aware of a pilot project that was running in two locations in Glasgow (Cranhill: East End, and Knightswood: West) over the last few months. In these projects, Jim King and Ian Davison were working to establish regular session/music clubs intended to "celebrate culture through friendship and music".

The initiative has been supported by The Scottish Refugee Council, Glasgow City Council and Tapselteerie Music.

That's the background, here's the invite...

Come along to the collaborative event that will celebrate the success on the initiative...

Partick Burgh Hall,Glasgow 1st September,2005 at 7.00pm

on the bill...

Dick Gaughan
Adam McNaughtan (compere)
Ahmed Almum and Gefari (Sudanese musicians)
Newroz (Kurdish ensemble)
Jim King
Ian Davison
Steven Clark

The concert is free.

In their respective projects, both Ian Davison and Jim King facilitated songwriting workshops in June during Refugee Week.

The resulting songs will be showcased on the night.

At the risk of being flippant Scabby Douglas, does this title no make it look like Dick Gaughan is a refugee from Glasgow?

He was born there you know, in the same hospital as I was, in the stangely named Rotten Row Maternity!

*Laughs*

Rottenrow Hospital, as you may be aware, is no longer there, Fiona. Somewhere at the back of my mind I had the knowledge that Mr Gaughan had been born here in the West, but I had forgotten.

There is a knack in constructing titles for Mudcat threads. I usually start by typing in what I think I want, and rapidly run out of letters. Then I revise it, trying to keep the essence of what I want to express, in as few characters as possible.

I'm sorry to hear that you won't be able to make the concert. We're looking forward to it immensely.

Dick Gaughan is a refugee from Glasgow?

He tells the story that he was knocked over by a bus when very small, an incident he cannot remember but never goes back to Glasgow just in case.

Hmm... I wonder if anyone has told him that Partick Burgh Hall sounds like it's in a town called Partick, but is actually in Glasgow?

Can we just keep this quiet? You know - just between ourselves? I don't want him to get wind of it and run off....

I've just had a look at DGs website, it's RUTHERGLEN where he was knocked down and doesn't go back to! Particks miles away...

I knew the Rottenrow was knocked down, my late mother would have approved. In labour with me she was made to walk up the hill (some hill btw) from Parly Rd because it would 'do her good' she insisted on having the next two at home.
