It is that time again. Saturday, August 27 at 6PM. Hope it's not too hot.

My doctor says I have to lower my cholesterol so now you'll all have to suffer with me. No more cream cheese in eggs!

Who's coming?
Who needs a bed?
Mary

Mary, don't worry about cholesterol in things you eat -- it's the cholesterol your own body makes that's bad for you. Drink wine, drink beer, eat garlic (or other aliums) - - it'll all help bring your numbers way down. Use olive oil or other monosaturates.

For a few years there they were saying you shouldn't more than one egg a week because of the cholesterol -- then they found out eggs don't make any difference at all and are much much better than bad for you.

I'm bringing a carrot cake (health food) with cream cheese frosting. (All the major food groups.)

Don't fret.

Eat what you like -- in moderation.

Linn

It's the "moderation" part that is my downfall.
The good news - my retina is in tact. No surgery.

Something to celebrate over prune juice and undressed salad.

Had the good Captain not gone on a mission of mercy and rescued me today I would tell him to shove the creamed onions into the Bernaise Sauce.

Looks like a small turnout. Sometimes those are the best.

SINS, high cholesterol can be caused by diet, by genes (and, as Batty said, overproduction of it by your liver). Garlic will likely help, a statin medication, if prescribed, will help. Excercise probably will be good for more than just your cholesterol (and I really need to develop a plan for myself) and diet may, I repeat, MAY help. It didn't help me at all. There was also a slight clue: my uncle on my mom's side died suddenly of a massive heart attack when he was 46, before the age of cholesterol screening, and my mom's cholesterol was high, despite being on an extremely low fat (and low salt, diabetic) diet. Diet didn't help me one bit and has no effect on my cholesterol level now. Anyway, do the diet thing. I'm telling you this stuff so if you go back to the doctor after a few months of depravation and misery and find your cholesterol hasn't changed one bit (or like mine did, got higher), you won't have a cow. At least not unless you trim all the fat off and grill it...with garlic.

Now, I seem to remember there was some on-topic reason I was posting to this thread...OH YEAH! I know where you live now. Will the world end if I show up? Got sleeping space left? If not, I have a blow up mattress. The car's a bit iffy these days, though.

Jeri - at a pinch you can use the van again, if Mary has a full house.

Sorry, won't be there this time. I'm headed the other direction--up to Bangor for the continuation of the National Folk Festival, now known as the American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront. Great lineup of talent (although not enough from Maine), and it's all free.

Aach, Mon!;

We already have a double agenda for that day (if not triple); Domestic Management is vehiment about spending the weekend at our secluded campground in Winthrop (on Berry Pond) and after the radio talk show I co-host on Sat. Mornings (you probably don't even want to know...) {;^) between 6 and 9 and driving the RV up there, There's a very non-PC event at the Augusta Civic Center that a bunch of my buds and I are hoping to attend.

Busy, busy, busy...

I've been noodling around with the concertina while camping and waiting for the BBQ - almost got a couple of tunes down!

DM finds it annoying, though.

WEll, if all the facilities are used it costs about $25 to dispose of the resultant waste. (We seem to be back to turds again - what is going on here?) If the waste isn't disposed of fairly fast the van starts smelling.

Consequently we would prefer that other facilities are used whenever possible.

BTW: I finally have photos of the Lobster Weekend, and will post as soon as I figure out where- and how-the-hell to do it!

Looking forward to things at Mudcat returning to what used to pass as normalcy so photos of recent events (like since June) can be posted again.

I've got pictures piling up of various Sinsull sings, etc.

If I have my act together I'll remember to bring dupes along Saturday. Other stuff I have to bring is a wildlife book (as if we're not wildlife enough !) for Ranger1, more lighted drinking glasses for Mary, the carrot cake for the assembled company, and the tapes of last Saturday's sea music singaround (almost finished transcribing -- just about to start doing the J-card for the first tape) for Jacqui so she can make copies for Carol. (And so they can hear what they missed?!?)

Hey, Dani! I'll trade you pictures -- I can email them to you if I knew your email address (hint, hint).

Laphroaig -- the only single malt Sinsull can stand. (I'll help -- but not out of the glasses with the lights in the bottom.)

I am yet again showing up with a sleep deficit. I was rudely awakened at 0 Dark:30 by a charlie horse in my calf. (Gawd, that sounds agricultural.) So I ended up coping by getting some computerization done (including the J-cards for last Saturday's tapes) before heading out to hit a few yard sales and pick up the carrot cake.

Did an abbreviated loop so I could come home and take a nap -- which I did, but ended up dreaming I was having trouble falling asleep. Ach!

Don't know how long I'll last tonight.

Don't worry, I can probably sing in my sleep. (which I promise not to do if everyone else is sleeping.)

Seriously, I too am bothered by charlie horses and the only thing that eases them is vitamin C. I get up, drink a small glass of fresh squeezed orange juice and within minutes the cramp is gone.

I got those calf cramps a lot when I was pregnant, and midwife prescribed bananas for potassium, washed down with OJ. Didn't make them go away, but as part of diet kept them from coming on.

They are all asleep or at least abed as will I be shortly. A fun night, funnier than most. Food was great - Jacqui outdid herself with 40# of roasted veggies. Jeri showed up with Wild Irish Rose which did in a few. I stuck to Laphroaig with an "I". The Duke of Earl concluded the evening. Oh dear!

Kendall's gone to bed and I'm heading there now.

It was a good evening, although Mary was rather hyper and didn't seem to stop talking all evening. Tami even tried to shut her up with the wonderful carrot cake that Linn bought, but it didn't work. Too much of the falling down water, I fear.

I hear Ranger1"s voice gain more confidence with each session. I am using Kendall's joke about the talented donkey on my trip to the Ol' Sod. The topics ranged from feculence to sanguine and phlegmatic humors as well as various naturally occurring adesive fluids.

Yes, there WAS a theme to last night's sing. Didn't know there was such a compatible repertoire. I even had TWO songs to contribute themeage-wise.

Wish I'd gotten Tom's first song (which kicked off the session)-- his, uh, "cowboy" song -- on tape. Been together almost 25 years and have never gotten it on tape. And, of course, he refused to sing the same song twice in an evening.

Actually left Sinsull's more wide awake than I've ever before been upon leaving. (And got stuck in the southbound tie-up before Biddeford due to an accident on the middle of the bridge over the Saco.)

Too bad I let slip that I knew where Sinsull's "misplaced" whale tamborine was. Never could keep my mouth shut. (DON'T say it, Kendall!!! Just don't say it!)

I was stuck in the same traffic clot, but luckily was next to a big-ass motor home that provided a bit of shade. They had all the messy bits off the road by the time I got there. In fact, there was nothing blocking the road at all except for rubber-neckers.

I have to tell people, this was probably one of the crappiest circle sings that SINS ever hosted, and a good time was had by all. Many of the songs were very moving and took guts to produce. In the anals of session-hood, this one goes down as a solid, nicely rounded one and I am still flushed with the experience.

Thank you!
Now I'll have to see if there are any uses for Wild Irish Rose beyond getting knee-walkin', commode huggin' blotto and pissing one's raggedy self in a squalid, noisome alley or college dorm. I'm surprised it wasn't all drunk as I made sure to bring enough straws for everyone. I guess next time I'll have to try that new Boonesfarm Tomato wind.

Mary, I left Kendall's Reel on a speaker, and I'm kicking myself. I'm also barely conscious, but y'all can probably tell that.
