Subject: RE: U.S. Old time musicians touring in U.K. From: BanjoRay Date: 23 Aug 05 - 07:45 PM It's about time Walt Koken came over here. He used to knock me out fiddling with the Highwoods String Band (still does!), and his solo banjo CDs have to be heard to be believed - a totally unmistakeable style. Now back on the fiddle in the Orpheus Supertones, he's doing a superb job. Banjo player Pete Peterson is a Mudcat regular with interesting stuff to say about Old Time music and banjo styles. One of the few players left with many different ways of playing the banjo. Nick, I'm going to have to come to your neck of the woods to see them. Looks like Alan Jabbour and Ken Perlman are going to be reasonably close to me. I'd love to get to a workshop - I did one with Alan at Glen Lyn, Virginia - what a great fiddle teacher. Cheers Ray |

Subject: RE: U.S. Old time musicians touring in U.K. From: Bill D Date: 23 Aug 05 - 09:52 PM Alan Jabbour is a real master and scholar of the fiddle. He can explain styles and play them also. I haven't seen Walt Koken in many years, but he sorta lives in that banjo....really gets into the music. |

Subject: RE: U.S. Old time musicians touring in U.K. From: GUEST Date: 08 Sep 05 - 12:45 AM Remain in the "good ol USA" next season
The UKer's are used to Buskers beside the underground....an aluminium clad copper is a "big-tip while the American Tourist will tip the bar-maid thrice more. The UK'ers are cheap, rude, ignoranant of tuneful tranditions.....anything not UK. If UKers ever advanced beyond the inderstanding of King George III...it is an abborated mirAcle |
