Subject: Licencing NIMBY (PEL) From: pavane Date: 24 Aug 05 - 07:41 AM It appears that a local MP of ours (I am not sure which one, but in Port Talbot I think) has put in an objection to his local pub's application for extended hours 'because it is a quite neighbourhood'. This is despite having voted 6 times in favour of 24 hour opening!!! |

Subject: RE: Licencing NIMBY From: The Shambles Date: 24 Aug 05 - 08:34 AM Letter in my local paper complaining about the late hours granted to the club nearby. It was asking folk to lobby their MP Jim Knight and giving as his address the South Dorset Labour Club. This is his constituency adresss and also the name of the Club which they are objecting to.......... |

Subject: RE: Licencing NIMBY From: Leadfingers Date: 24 Aug 05 - 10:03 AM Cant remember the guys name , but its the pub just round the corner from his London Flat !! They have filled the form in correctly , requesting options that they are NOT going to use on a regular basis , which is what the Act was designed for and he has objected . It doesnt give you any great hope for the PEL situation , does it ? |

Subject: RE: Licencing NIMBY From: ET Date: 26 Aug 05 - 03:59 AM He's a London MP. He was named in the Telegraph but can't remember his name. Of course he said "not a contradiction - the Act allows local objections and I objected sucessfully". What cobblers. He voted 6 times for late night opening for the rest!!!! Music and local politicians just do not go together. The Bridlington Country Music Festival, that should have started tonight, has been cancelled because local politicians cut back drastically on the hours for the live music - the same lot that bewail the decline of Bridlington as a tourist veneue. I think they would prefer tourists in pacamacs who go to bed at 8 pm and spend the day over a cup of coffee staring out of misted up windows as the rain beats down! |
