Subject: Lyrics re:Phil Ochs From: Date: 22 Feb 97 - 07:49 PM I'm looking for the lyrics to an old Phil Ochs song. I don't know that he ever recorded it, by I know the Mitchell Trio did. It's titled "That's the Way it's Gonna Be" and starts with "So you say that all the good times are gone, and you say this rain (reign) will keep rainin' on... |
Subject: RE: Lyrics re:Phil Ochs From: RICH R Date: 24 Feb 97 - 12:08 AM I have the words around somewhere as I used to sing it once in a while. I will look for them unless somebody else comes up with them. The song was by Bob Gibson and Phil Ochs. It was recorded by the Mitchell Trio on their album of the same name. It was also recorded by The Backporch Majority and I think Glen Yarbrough may have recorded it also. As far as I know Ochs never recorded it, but I do not know about Gibson. |
Subject: RE: Lyrics re:Phil Ochs From: Steve from Wisconsin Date: 24 Feb 97 - 07:11 PM Bob Gibson put it on at least one album (for me his best)- "Funky in the Country." It was a live album at The Amazingrace Coffeehouse on the Northwestern University campus in Evanston, Illinois in approx. April, 1974. For those who don't know-Bob Gibson passed away recently. :-( |

Subject: That's the Way It's Gonna Be (Ochs/Gibson) From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 29 Mar 14 - 11:14 PM There are two different versions of the lyrics to the song. There is a video on YouTube of Phil singing this song with the following lines: Even though you say hard times knock at my door Though you say I'll never smile anymore I just imagine that I'm ten feet tall Then if I try I can climb the highest wall It doesn't matter if I slip down and fall That's the way it's gonna be, wait and see Even though you say I've reached the end of my row Though you say my tides are all runnin' low It's been so long since I tried to frown That ol' man trouble will never get me down It's all that easy when you know where you're bound That's the way it's gonna be, wait and see It was from The Broadside Tapes I, recorded in 1964, a year before the Mitchell Trio released the album of the same title. Later in a 1974 reunion, Bob and Phil sang the same lyrics as CMT did. Jason |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: That's the Way It's Gonna Be (Phil Ochs) From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 02 Apr 14 - 09:14 AM A demo version of this song can be found on Phil's "The Broadside Tapes I" album, with the initial lyrics. Bob recorded the song in 1974. Here is a slideshow of Phil and Bob doing this song together. According to allmusic, this song was also recorded by the Mitchell Trio, the Back Porch Majority, Lee Mallory, Jose Feliciano, Glenn Yarbrough, John Denver, Curt Boettcher and Bob Cook. I don't know who Bob Cook is, he recorded the song on an album called "Love Is a Verb". |
