I think it's on the Corries CD of humorous songs. I'm sure it is on one of the CD's currently out, I'm sure I saw it on a playlist when I looked in Aberdeens HMV about two hours ago!

Subject: Lyr Req: THE BIRTH OF THE CORRIES BLUES
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 22 Nov 11 - 12:53 AM

My transcription from the recording found on Spotify:

THE BIRTH OF THE CORRIES BLUES
As sung by The Corries on "Scotland Will Flourish" (1985) and "The Comedy Collection" (2003)

1. At our first gig I was a nervous wreck—
Three chords, an old guitar, and Ronnie's brass neck.
They told us it was formal so we rented ties and suits,
But when we got there, they was all as pissed as newts.
Oh, mercy, what a gig that was!
When the fighting broke out, a flying can o' stout
Hit Ronnie on the snout and we got thrown out.
Woe's me!
No fee.

2. Well we signed up with an agent 'cause he said he'd get us jobs.
He booked us for a wedding—some highfalutin' snobs.
It was a white occasion but it seemed wrong to me
'Cause the bride took a fancy to Ronnie and the groom took a fancy to me.
Oh, mercy, what a gig that was!
Hell the best man did his best, hauled the bride off Ronnie's chest,
Told the groom to cool his lust, couldn't see our heels for dust.
Woe's me!
No fee.

3. Well, we played some strange engagements, but we never got paid,
Never got no booze, never even got laid.
Things were gettin' desperate and all our meals were tinned,
But we ate so many beans they called us Blowing in the Wind
Oh ,mercy, what a gig that was!
Well, we even tried religion; played … Sally Ann,
But all the tips we got had to go into the can.
Woe's me!
No fee.

4. Ah, but then we got discovered playing at a county ball.
They thought they'd booked a duo called Macgregor and Hall.
We got some money; we even got some fame.
We bought some new clothes; we even got a new name.
Oh, mercy, and The Corries was born!
Ah, but things are just the same when we get back to the nest:
The kids hold out their hands and the women take the rest.
Woe's me!
There goes our fee.
