Just had to say what a great time we had at Otley.

Great concerts; wasn't Karine Polwart brilliant?

Lovely town, smashing friendly people!

Be back next year, if not before!

Glad you enjoyed the festival SingingRef (pity - we never actually got introduced though i must've seen you around?). Otley is indeed a friendly little spot and the festival team a reet good'un as they say in those parts!

My feeling (just recovering today!) was that the concerts were very strong and there were some tremendous performances - like Duncan McFarlane's two-hour-and-the-rest blinder of a set with his electric band at Korks on Sat till the wee small hours. Also sticking in the memory are the Voices concert at the Red Lion earlier on Sat evening, and Ashley Hutchings' Rainbow Chasers band on the Sunday, and Allan Taylor too, but shame i had to miss Karine P. And need I say it, the mighty El Greko conquered allcomers with his various appearances - we need to see more of him in these parts!
But, shame there were very few sessions/opportunities this year for "real" singing (as opposed to musicians, who had plenty) - by which I don't count the ad-hoc raucous smokebedevilled pub gatherings.

Generally though the buzz this year at Otley was great. See you around Ref.

A lovely weekend (after Thursdays rain)
Nice to meet you ossonflags and my thanks to the organisers for a well run camp site (despite the cow pats :>)) an excellent transport system to and around the town and some smashing - if crowded - venues. Great value camp site caterers too

Thoroughly enjoyed the fest mesel!

Crowded venues due to biggest attendance yet, I believe.
Certainly more 'tickets' of all sorts sold.

Good Campsite caterers? Wasn't that the mighty 'Moor & Coast' crew?

Finally, thanks to the lady that donated the kilt pin!
If you're reading this, DO lemme know who you are - Cheers! - HFA

HFA, not Moor & Coast, but two (sometimes three)lovely local lassies and one fella. Good family unit, who always had a smile. Food was wonderful, value for money and you got humour to boot. Brill.

Magician and I spent most of the weekend running around like the good releif stewards we are. Shame on the 11 that got stewarding tickets and then were never seen again!!

Still we enjoyed the break and saw a few artists and meet loads of people, and made some new friends.

Gillie (on Magician's cookie)

Hey I'll endorse that, Gillie - saw you and Magician doin' the biz, it was great to meet up with you both again and find time to chat. (And I do so agree, there'll always be the "runners" that give stewarding hassles - but then surely they won't be taken on next year will they?)
Big hugs,
M

Well...I went to Otley too and had a whale of a time! We saw John Tams, George Papavgeris (Hi El Greko!) and The Duncan McFarlane Band amongst others and were knocked sideways by all three of them...well 4 more too counting Duncan's Band!

And Otley is SUCH a friendly place! Everywhere you went people smiled and said hello...and it's so pretty up there as well. Totally fell in love with Yorkshire and Yorkshire folk.

Definitely going back next year but this time for the whole four days if possible.

Thanks to everyone who organised it. Really enjoyable!

Yep it was another Brill Otley fest. though as usual didn't get too far away from the Manor Pub. Bit of sad news on that front, as it was most likley Paul's last festival as landlord of the pub. He'll be missed, he was a great supporter of the festival. Good luck for the future Paul.

Grand Kids enjoyed it too, Grandchild No.1 (Travis) liked the window sills in the Manor, brill for playing with his Thomas the tanks trains and Grandchild no. 2 (Maisey) just slept through it all, even when Ossenflags sang !!!!!!!!!!!

Great festival, great turns, fabulous sound tekkies, excellent venues, and the MCs were all very professional - a lesson to other festivals. Most of all, great audiences, and the locals all very friendly.

I missed the singarounds mostly - my fault really, as I was dashing to catch Allan Taylor, Karine Polwarts, Tams & Coope, Friendly Visit, Duncan Mc Farlane's band (which I missed as I was too late to get in) etc etc. The two lads I saw at Kork's Wine Bar were an absolute revelation (were they Glen Folk?), I fell in love with their sound.

Steve, if you read this - yes please!

Welcome back El G - great to see you at Otley, do come back oop north soon!
The two lads you saw at Korks - I think that must've been Feldspar. They are brilliant.
Glad someone else appreciated the MCs, you're right - it's so important to get it right and keep things running smoothly. And the fabulous sound guys too, specially Rod. Unsung (extra-)ordinary heroes all of em.

Muppett- sorry to hear the news about Paul at the Manor, I must call in and wish him all the best before he departs (when?)....

Bring back El Greko next year....Pleeeese! We want El Greko! We want El Greko!

Tell you what George, I don't want to depress you further, by adding to your frustration of missing them, but The DMcF Band were sensational! Sorry to have to tell you that.... ;0) Maybe they should have been in the main hall though, not enough space to fit everyone who wanted to see them in....and you SO need to dance to them too.

We all really enjoyed your concert hugely though George. Four new fans, two young 'uns and two er...not so young 'uns. Thanks for a lovely afternoon listening to all your wonderful songs.
