Subject: BS: Angels Against Angels
From: GUEST,Peter Woodruff
Date: 10 Sep 05 - 05:37 PM

I witnessed an epiphony today! I have an Epiphone guitar and I will play it again today to write a song of angels. Angels come to us in many forms and today I saw angels confronting angels at the Brunswick Naval Air Station, soon to be closed to fund several new U.S. emperical bases in the oil colony of Iraq. Bush's policy of closing military bases in "Blue States", to disarm the "Blue States" in time of terrorist attacks and natural disasters, to fatten "Red States" is abominable!

"We'll leave the blue states indefensible and we will leave New Orleans indefesible too! "I hate blue states an red states with democrats in control! I also want to double up the pork for the stupid people that voted for me in the true red states. It's the only the right thing to do." W

I witnessed an epiphony today! Angels against angels were battling it out in Brunswick, Maine. Right in front of me and over my head! I was terrified of such ill-used "Shock and Awe" power while we were peacably trying to bring attention to the gross national shame of an immoral war we were lied into!

Angels on the ground calling fo peace, Blue Angels in the air recruiting for war...NO MORE WAR!

I was witness to The Great State of Maine Airshow!...and the Protest of this illconcieved war in Iraq to provide a colony for the import of oil to America.

You Bastard W

According to Amnesty International, an extremely liberal and pacifist outfit, Saddam Hussein murdered 300,000 of his own citizens. Some were tortured, the 'luckier' victims died quickly of Saddam's nerve gas. He also started a war with Iran which cost another 1.1 million lives. Grand total for 24 years of Saddam Hussein's reigh of terror: 1.4 million, of about 159 dead per day.

George W. Bush put an end to Saddam's terror. Most Americans regard this as a good thing.

But perhaps not even possible for some at the moment. There were domain name changes today and reports in help and at the Annexe of people not able to enter the site (and if it is a nameserver change may not be able to for a while yet unless they use IP address). I suspect that is why the place has been so dead today (although it seems to have slowed down for a week or more in terms of traffic - but not quite this slow).

pdq - The USA funded and armed Saddam to fight that war against Iran on behalf of the USA! Are we later to thank the USA for bringing him down? The USA shares complicity IN the deaths of the 1.1 million who died in the Iran-Iraq war. It was America's indirect revenge attack on Iran for the hostage crisis of the late 70's. Saddam was the USA's triggerman in the Middle East at that time. The intention of that war was to completely defeat and occupy Iran and destroy its Islamic government. That intention met bloody failure.

George Bush "put an end to Saddam's terror", as you put it, by launching a new and greater terror all his own...and it has not yet ended.

Please don't cover the same ground over and over again.

Saddam was responsible for 159 deaths per day for 24 years.

Now, conflict in Iraq kills about 16 per day.

Not perfect, but better.

Jimmy Carter's stabbing the Shah of Iran in the back triggered the chain of events we see starting in 1979.

Agree or disagree, let's all pray that peace and justice come to Iraq real soon. That is all I have to say.

pdq

like you I want peace and justice in Iraq. I also understand the pragmatism of political alliances.

Saïd K Aburish, a former government Minister under Saddam Hussein, has written several books, one of them "Saddam Hussein, The Politics of Revenge" published by Bloomsbury in 2000. Pages 136 - 138 describe how in 1975 the US Government knowingly helped Iraq obtain the technology to build its first chemical warfare plant. The author was involved in these negotiations, and documents meetings, officials and companies involved. He explains how in 1974, an Iraqi delegation "led by Dr Mohammed Al Shukri of the Iraqi Ministry of Industry, but operating under the cover of representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, visited Pfaulder Corporation of Rochester, New York, a specialist in chemical plant manufacture."

Saddam Hussein, The Politics of Revenge, Said K Aburish p 137

He goes on to describe the tooing and froing between Iraq and the US that led to the US passing on to the Iraqi government blueprints for their first chemical weapons plant. The author cites letters, and documents which involved both the US government and MI5.

the book also documents co-operation between the Baath Party and the CIA.

Okay, we can safely assume that Saddam wasn't actually killin' 157 people very day leadin' up to the Bush administration orderin' an attack that may have killed upwards of 100,000 people...

I'll give the Wes Ginny Slide Rule a break on this one but given what Iraq has become, one's cahn ces of surviving thru the day in Iraq ain't as good these days as they were under Saddam...

Plus, here's what really bugs me... Donnie Rumsfelf goes to Iraq and shakes Saddam's hand and gives him all kinds of toys includin' a gold plated M-16 and then Saddam is no longer needed and so rather than the US keep him contained until they need him again, they go blow the entire friggin' country up???...

Like whoes idea was this?? Michael Brown's????

The name is Kendall, with an "A" not an "E"

I'll answer that question even though it is not grammatically correct,

A working man voting for a republican is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.

Personalities mean little to me, it's what their party stands for that counts. I detest Ted Kennedy but I agree with his politics. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are loud mouth trouble makers, yet I like their politics.
On the other hand, I like John McCain but I can't vote for him because I don't like his politics.

I ask myself, "What has the republican party ever done for the working man (me)?? I'm still waiting for the answer.

But it does seem appropriate for Bush/Cheney, arguably the greatest screwups in US history.

pdq, your theoretical question to me is meaningless. Gore, believing what he believes, would never have been a Republican. And Bush, believing as he does would never have been a Democrat. I voted (and will continue to vote) based on my understanding of the beliefs of the candidates--how well they coincided with what I believe.

So if I don't answer your question, it's because I can hardly answer a question that is basically nonsensical.

I'm not going to get sucked into that kind of trap.

Countersink only relates to screws? Huh? While you can drill a hole to accept a countersunk screw, you can also buy at least 5 different size punches to countersink a nail or use a nail as a countersink in a pinch, if you are careful. Obviously I have nothing to add to this thread except a bit of pedantry.

On second thought I'll pass on this, although dated.

Chris Rock's "Quote of the Year"

"You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy,  the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance,Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named Bush, Dick, and Colon.    Need I say more?"

By the way, I know that Bush has never written any books. I wonder if he's ever read one. . . .

During the 2000 election campaign, Ralph Nader was frequently accused of "siphoning votes away" from Al Gore.

In response, Ralph Nader pointed out that "everytime he opens his mouth, Al Gore siphons vote away from Al Gore!"

Doin Firth admits a mistake! A first!

Actually, while Al Gore may have written books, he never read them.

For you enlightenment and education, pdq, probably the best known of Al Gore's books is

Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit
.   And he has written five other books on government. Check your local library, or Amazon.

There are a number of books about him, such as The World According To Al Gore : An A-To-Z Compilation Of His Opinions, Positions, And Public Statements, by Joseph Kaufman

So there is no scarcity of source material for athe person who is not just interested in snotty remarks, but who genuinely wants to know.

Again, during the 2000 presidential election, there were questions about "core beliefs".

Originally considered a pro-family, Christian and relatively conservative, Gore eventually made statements that contradicted most of his previous position on issues.

Joe Lieberman had the same problem. In order to follow the "ethically challenged" Clinton administration, he had to change his position on the issues of crime, abortion and pornography, just to name a few.

Eventually, a frustrated supporter said of Lieberman, "he no longer has core beliefs, he has Gore beliefs!"

In defense of pdq--my buddy with whom I love to argue and trade shots--he is proving quite well that the Democrats aren't worth a whole helluvalot. It is also patently obvious that the Republicans aren't worth a whole helluvalot either. Folks, the USA is in trouble. Would do y'all some good to start deciding what you can do to save your country from its politicians, and a substantial part of its electorate. IMO.

Like I said, change the subject. Karl Rove tactics.

Right, Peace. Neither party is worth much these days. What pdq doesn't seem to grasp is that taking shots at one party doesn't justify or excuse the incompetance of the other party. It just tries to change the subject.

Exactly Peace ... the USA is a nation in trouble .... instead of blaming politicians and parties (which are a reflection on them as a people) and which are ineffectual (right and left), they are going to have to dig deep into themselves to discover what is truly what is needed. Then and only then they can pull themselves together.

As I mentioned ... they are a nation in dire (W)ants and needs ... wants and needs that they have lost touch with , rich or poor, and they are going to have to figure those out within themselves.

I would like to take credit for that line of thinking, but over the years, Bobert has hammered that home and I have come to agree with him.

I disagree. I don't think pdq has proven a single point he has made about Al Gore. It is easy to throw out lines that one picks up in the yellow press. pdq has obviously never read any of Gore's books or thought about any of the issues Al Gore is concerned with. That, my friends, typifies the problem in the USA. As a nation, we prefer not to think, we prefer to pillory.

The issues are real. The differences between Republicans and Democrats are real. The differences between the current administration and its greedy, shortsighted, ignorant and incurious dream team and the last administration and - I hope - the NEXT administration, are real.

Well it's true Peace and Bobert.

Last weekend as I mentioned I was down in Brunswick Maine ... on Sunday we went into Portland ... small city of 65k (or whatever) ... my wife wanted to go over to the mall .... same scene in any city ... while she was in one of the many box stores that typically surround the cathedral Mall, I went to over to a Dunkin Donuts across the road. While walking over there I noticed there wasn't sidwalk for a pedestrian ... not one to be found all around the whole area ... even the interesctions were for cars, certainly not for some hapless lone person like me trying to cross a major thoroughfare ... and believe me I'm the only soul to be seen on foot. Now, this I have encountered in Atlanta and Boston previously, but this is small town Maine ... What I'm trying to get across here is that they have become a nation that has become totally lost of the human element ... a nation that is losing touch with it's human roots and trying to satisy a dire unknown (W)ant and need .

Bush, the Republicans, Democrats, Homeland Security, and corporations are reflective of that nation .... they have all lost touch with the human element, the people are losing touch with the human element. Trying to satisfy a thirsty population unsure of their demanding (W)ants and needs.

Perfect grammar is not essential in communication. But leaving the subject out of a sentence like that makes it nonsense.

But again, even if you had communicated the pseudo thought clearly the point is nonsense.

Was the jist of it? If the Republicans had run Al Gore and if the Democrats had run Bush would "still" have changed his vote?

You are putting still in quite a pickle there.

The Republicans running a second generation Democrat politician campaigning on the the environment, The Democrats runing a third generation Republican, son or a recent Republican President, running with the unqualified support of Big Oil on a platform of "social conservatism"

The answer to your question actually is "If the Republicans and Democrats had done that then the Republicans would be the Democrats and visa versa." Like I said, nonsense.

Sorry Kendall, it was a typo.

Thanks, Peace, for posting links to those.

Eighty-one pages and forty-three pages respectively. That's gonna take a bit to go through critically and compare the two. A cursory glance through both of them reveals a lot of blattaty-blattaty-blattety and yada-yada-yada, but then, these people never have learned to say much of anything succinctly.

Back about 2004, I liked Dennis Kucinich's "Ten Points." Short, to the point, clear as a bell. No waffling or equivocation.

No wonder most people don't know what the hell is going on or where people stand. This stuff is like wading through the fine print on your insurance policies.

But I'll read it anyway.

One is a shortened version of the other.

It only makes sense. Stuff the Rs say attracts voters. So, the Ds say lots of stuff the same--different words, same spin. They hope to attract some R voters. The Rs do the same hoping to attract some D voters. And to quote Vonnegut, "And so it goes."

The twparty system is leading to the death of democracy in the USA. Only thing left is which party will give the eulogy at the funeral.
