Just moved to Maine, found the Chocolate Church in Bath, but need to know about folk/acoustic venues in and around Portland, Maine. Any recommendations?

Not exactly what you asked for, but there's a pick-up folk music session at The Press Room, opposite the Post Office on Daniel St., in Portsmouth, NH, every Friday evening between 4:30 PM, and around 8:30 - 9:00.   We also have a monthly Shanty Sing at the same place one weekend of each month.

If this is anything you think you'd like I can give you beter directions or a map.

Dave

There is also a gathering at the Side Door in Brunswick, I think it's the third Friday of each month.
There is also a more or less private one in South Portland each month. If you play banjo and are not a republican you might be invited LOL

John,

I host a Song Circle once a month in South Portland. PM me for details but you will have to become a member to access PMs. It is free. It can be anywhere from 6 to 20 people depending on the weather. Overnight accomodations are available. And if you play the banjo, you get first choice of chairs even if you are a Republican. So there, Kendall!

The Acoustic Cafe in Portland offers folk, blues and singer song-writers. They have open mikes as well.

I meant that joining Mudcat is free. The Song Circle fee is some music or a story.

It's been a slow, sad, downhill journey.
Go to hell!

The Sidedoor Coffeehouse is taking place this Friday, and every 3rd Friday, at the Unitarian Church in Brunswick on Pleasant St., across from the Post Office. Sign-up for the open mike is at 7 pm sharp and you'd have 8 minutes to present a couple of songs or tunes. A featured performer begins at 9 pm. Admission is about $5. It's generally a great listening audience.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Bob-

Sorry, not usually. But if you swing by from greater Seattle I'll personally provide you a six-pack of Shipyard Export Ale.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

I'm looking for folks to jam with in the Portland or Augusta Maine area. August 24 - July 7. Please e-mail me if you have any info. I altered my e-mail address below to avoid spambots, but you can figure it out.

Ed, you may find what you're looking for in the Any Music in New England?

Let us know when you plant to be in Maine and perhaps we can help further. Enjoy your stay.

Maeve
