Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday - Amos From: JennyO Date: 13 Sep 05 - 10:38 AM maybe we can figger out a way to remove the agenarian part, and just leave the sex. Sounds good to me, Amos! On the other hand, is this to be our future? ARRRRRGGGGHHHHH! I'M FINE, THANK YOU (Anon) There is nothing the matter with me. I'm as healthy as I can be. I have arthritis in both my knees And when I talk, I talk with a wheeze. My pulse is weak, and my blood is thin But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in. Arch supports I have for my feet Or I wouldn't be able to be on the street. Sleep is denied me night after night, But every morning I find I'm all right. My memory is failing, my head's in a spin But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in. The moral is this, as my tale I unfold, That for you and me who are growing old, It's better to say "I'm fine" with a grin Than to let folks know the shape we are in. How do I know that my youth is all spent? Well, my "get up and go" just got up and went. But I really don't mind when I think with a grin Of all the grand places my "get up" has been. Old age is golden, I've heard it said; But sometimes I wonder as I get into bed With my ears in the drawer my teeth in a cup, My eyes on the table until I wake up. Ere sleep overtakes me, I say to myself, "Is there anything else I could lay on the shelf?" When I was young my slippers were red, I could kick my heels over my head When I was older my slippers were blue, But I still could dance the whole night through. Now I am old, my slippers are black, I walk to the store and puff my way back. I get up each morning and dust off my wits And pick up the paper and read the obits. If my name is still missing, I know I'm not dead So I fix me some breakfast and go back to bed. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday - Amos From: Rapparee Date: 13 Sep 05 - 09:05 AM It'll be okay, Amos. Really. Being sixty isn't bad. I've been sixty since February and nothing important has fallen off or anything. I mean, the wrinkles aren't painful or anything, and you can get a lot of reading done during the extra time you'll be spending on the...well, you'll get a lot of reading done. Of course, you'll probably forget where you put your trifocals, but that's nothing because you'll also forget where you put your dentures and your cane, what your name is, where you live, and who that woman is who lives in your house. The extra sleep you get will almost compensate for the other things you used to do in the bed, only you won't remember what they were. None of this has happened to me, but I hear a lot of talk. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday - Amos From: JennyO Date: 13 Sep 05 - 08:34 AM Good grief! Sixty sounds so OLD, but - and I hate to say it - I am going to be one of those there sexagenarians in a couple of weeks, and I'm not ready to be old yet. The 'sex' part I can handle though :-) Hope you had a great one, Amos! Jenny |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday - Amos From: Lonesome EJ Date: 13 Sep 05 - 12:43 AM Ah, the Temple of the Golden Globes. I have spent many a pleasant hour relaxing in the Garden of Perfect Serenity that lies between them. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday - Amos From: Amos Date: 13 Sep 05 - 12:30 AM Thanks Mag. You need to put "Temple" into the Mudcat search, not Google, to get this particular context. You will get the point soon enough, as we say in the training sessions, and you definitely qualify for transcendental meditation in our services, if you're interested in contributing to our spiritual sensitivity and forward approach to divinity. Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday - Amos From: Stilly River Sage Date: 12 Sep 05 - 11:03 PM Bobert, great minds DO think alike. Another Virgo here, but I bypassed the opportunity of a thread by not mentioning the date when it happened. (There do seem to have been quite a few reporting in on this thread). I didn't bake a cake, but I did to a search on Golden Globes. Mostly I found photos of the Beautiful People in Hollywood with their statuettes and fancy clothing. Not much except the one above to share with ol' Amos. (Now we both know there are many terms that one might enter into a search engine to get a higher percentage of the desired results, but if one plays the game by the unspoken rules, one settles for what one finds on the first search. Along the way I did find an interesting site about a Golden Girl--Doris Day). Happy, Happy, Amos! Maggie (SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday - Amos From: Amos Date: 12 Sep 05 - 08:40 PM Well, I am almost done turning sixty. I have fought every inch of the way, squalling like a five year old and pontificatin' like a 20-year-old and passing judgement like a fifty-year-old, but I can't lick it nor scare it off either, so I guess I had better call Uncle on this thing before it escalates and makes me 64!! Old Time sure knows how to worry a body, I'll say that. But on the other hand, I am that much closer to doin' all the good stuff I haven't had time for yer, like sailing around the world and writing the great American doowop. Anyway, whatever, I promise it'll be fun and interestin'...at least to me... can't make no guarantees aside from that! You guys are the greatest. Thanks for all your loverly kind words, they touch me aged heart. A |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday - Amos From: Little Hawk Date: 12 Sep 05 - 06:39 PM Your failure to fully appreciate the fine qualities of William Shatner is possibly the only really serious flaw in what is otherwise a sterling character, Amos. It's a shame, really. You fall just short of perfection. Most people are quite unaware that William Shatner completely revolutionized the whole concept of acting way back in the 1950's when he did a series of brilliant roles in the movies and on TV, such as his appearance on Twilight Zone. It wasn't Brando who changed the movies forever, it was Shatner. Brando was a mere flicker of the blinding light that Shatner shone upon the world of film art. I can easily say that had Shatner been alive in 1914, and been in charge of the Allied forces, World War One would have ended 2 years sooner! Millions of lives could have been saved. How? He would have sung to the troops, that's how. He would have led them by example to go where no man had gone before! He would have inspired feats of arms that even Alexander could never match. I kid you not. Damn shame he was born too late, isn't it? |

I thought they just got carbon-dated (no, that's not the name of a nice girl, Amos), which I've heard is painful (OK, so now you're *sure* she's a nice girl, Amos...). So many happy returns of Miss Carbon, Amos! ;-) R |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday - Amos From: GUEST,William Shatner Date: 12 Sep 05 - 04:23 PM I had a number of things to do today. I'm a busy man. Most of them were, relatively speaking, just a tad more important than posting on this forum. Just a tad! :-) But, hey, I'm a generous guy. I've had a lot of experience over the years with what it means to be...human. I know how much it means to some people just to get a little recognition, a little confirmation that they are not alone in a huge unfeeling universe, and that someone out there cares. So...it is with at least a moderate level of enthusiasm that I take a couple of minutes out from my busy day here, Amos, to say.... Happy Birthday!!! You lucky sod. I could just have ignored it entirely. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy... You are now only 365 days away from the next chance to have this happen. Cross your fingers, buddy, and hope for the best! - William Shatner p.s. I won that Steel Cage match. You lost. Live with it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday - Amos From: Amos Date: 12 Sep 05 - 03:52 PM Wisely? WISELY?? A kiss from the Galactic Redhead is NOT something that fits in the same breath as wisely -- it knocks the wisdom outta yer head faster than a kick from a Tennessee mule on moonshine, I betcha! Nevertheless, I will treasure them is spite of being wholly unequipped to use as instructed! :D Y'all get back here more often GG! Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday - Amos From: Rapparee Date: 12 Sep 05 - 03:22 PM I'd wish him happy birthday but he didn't bake me a cake. Or even invite me. We could have played pin the tail on the donkey and drunk Kool-Aid and went on a scavenger hunt and eaten ice cream and cake 'til we puked, but I wasn't even invited. So in a fit of depression I spent a day and a half in the environs of DC. Let that be a lesson to ya. Oh, hell, Happy Birthday. Welcome to the club. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday - Amos From: Amos Date: 12 Sep 05 - 02:29 PM Well, candles have lots of uses you know. I once knew a lovely Moroccan housewife who was very pregant, her first, IIRC; and she kept a couple in her bedside table to nibble on because it seemed to fill a need, like pickles and ice cream is reputed to do for some gals during pregnancy. One of the all time great inventions, the candle. A |

Wodda wild and motley crew this place has!! Ya jes' gotta love it.
