What about the floorspace? Is it booked already? Btw, as Aer Lingus does not offer the flights Munich to Cork after March 06, I will fly to Dublin on Thursday - I'm not sure yet whether I will sleep in Cork or in Dublin, that depends on when I really get out of the Airport, the bus timetable (not available yet for May) ... |

Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Fibula Mattock Date: 17 Feb 06 - 07:01 AM hello hello, am currently checking out finances (limited, given my impending trip to China and a move to London in August) - I have my cousin's wedding a week before the Eurogathering in Monaghan, and may not be able to do 2 trips. I'm already on packed lunches and wines of poor vintage, so things are tight. Why is AerArann so expensive?! |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Oaklet Date: 17 Feb 06 - 09:32 AM Dearest Fibulamatic, under the Registration of Airline Businesses act (within the confines of the European Harmonisation of Air Traffic Regulations 2003 and 2004), airlines now pay a surcharge based upon how many vowels there are in their name or "Trading Style", as they call it - as a proportion of the total number of letters in the name. Aer Arrann gets a right caning for over-using the letter A and a for using a whopping 4 vowels out of 9 letters. You don't have to count the space(s) since the 2004 amendment in case you were going to ask. Unfortunately, these charges have to be passed on to the consumer. I am always happy to help. |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Fibula Mattock Date: 17 Feb 06 - 01:05 PM Thank you Oakers. Once again your extensive knowledge of avionic legislation has saved the day. Under Article 57 of The State versus Hyperinflated Ticketing Costs I will be making a complaint forthwith. |

Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Wolfgang Date: 22 Feb 06 - 08:23 AM which word enjoys the highest ratio of vowels to consonants Well, in German, a wet and boggy patch of land on a Jupiter moon would have to be called Ioaue. That even beats the French 'oiseau' (bird) Wolfgang |

Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Wolfgang Date: 23 Feb 06 - 06:31 AM That is basically the same as making sentences in English only on the level of words, for in English there is no fixed length limit for sentences and you always can add some more words to enhance the length of the sentence though it may not really improve the understandability while on the other hand it has the advantage that you can be sure that this particular sentence has never before been said or written by anybody else. Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 15 Mar 06 - 10:42 AM Hi folks! Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Doug Chadwick Date: 30 Mar 06 - 01:40 PM I've booked the ferry so all I need to do now is sort some accommodation. I'm fairly flexible – I have a tent and enjoy camping but hotels, hostels or some sort of house sharing all sound fine to me. Basically, I'll take anything above a park bench or a police cell. I'll sleep anywhere but I must have some security for my musical instruments. I have transport but I would prefer to be able to sample all the delights of old Ireland, rather than having to nurse half a pint of Guinness all evening. If it turns out that the only accommodation is at a distance from the sessions, I could forego the alcohol if there is good music and craic at each end. The most important thing is not to be too far from the action. I don't want to be stuck somewhere on my own, wondering if everyone else is having a good time. Where is everyone else staying? DC |

Basically, I'll take anything above a park bench or a police cell. I've seen many hotels, camping areas and hostels - but none of them on the roof of a police cell ;-) Or did I misinterprete that? You take either a police cell or anything above a park bench (which probably means a branch of a tree)? ;-) I have not yet booked a hostel in Cork. Letty, which is the hostel closest to the action? (Or has by chance someone canceled floor space?) Andy/MudGuard |

Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Doug Chadwick Date: 31 Mar 06 - 01:35 AM Letty, Re your suggested cultural event of a trip to either Beamish / Jamesons Distillery / Blarney Castle / city tour: Blarney is the bottom of the list for me, as I can go there on my own, but I have no strong preferences on the others. Whichever is chosen (even Blarney), you can count me in as a participant. DC |

Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Skipjack K8 Date: 01 Apr 06 - 12:32 PM Only just caught up with this thread, and am saddened Wilfried will not be joining us this year. Wilfried's a part of the furniture of a Eurogather. You will be sorely missed, old friend. I looked at them tadpoles and scratched me head; looks like something Oakley scribbled. |

Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Doug Chadwick Date: 02 Apr 06 - 02:32 PM Andy, I must admit that I tend not to look at the little smiley faces that people use as I have to turn my head to the side to understand them and it hurts my neck. But, rest assured, your comments were received in the spirit they were made. I suppose I should have added some to my reply but, just as I tend to ignore them when reading, it never occurs to me to use them when writing. As a point of interest to all, I e-mailed Sheila's hostel and it would appear that they have only limited availability for the weekend we are interested in. DC |
Subject: RE: Eurogathering 2006 - Cork, EIRE From: Susanne (skw) Date: 02 Apr 06 - 06:11 PM Well, I hope you'll all have a smashing time (not literally, of course ...). I won't be coming after all. Sad, as I'd love to see you all again (and I'll miss the trip to Jameson's, of course). But it would have meant postponing my holiday till May, and I'm so knackered I just need it as soon as possible. Also, jetting through the world is not the most relaxing activity I can think of... However, is there any chance of an English Mudgathering at some convenient festival in, say, September? I'd try to get to that, or else just drop in on the Yorkshire Mudcat stronghold if that's ok. Anyway, Wolfgang and Andy are sure to represent Germany in style, and I'm pinning my hopes on 2007. Back in Germany, perhaps? Or wherever else Letty is headed next. (And please, Letty, give my regards to your dad. I'm sorry to miss meeting him again.) |
