Rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated.
The weekend is on, with my sincere apologies, but this is the first time I am able to get through to the site in a while!

DC: both locations fine, Wellington may be a bit closer, but a steep walk back, and Western Rd is fine as long as you don't mind a brisk walk. Downtown Cork has no real B&Bs, only hotels. Very little green there!
Can people confirm if they're going by email, as I'm afraid my connection is very bad...LNijhuis at hotmail.com

I will then send everyone the programme if I cannot get on!

Pub of choice is confirming this weekend, but probably the Abbey Tavern! This is near the cathedral, and would be slightly closer to Washington street.

Are you all coming?
For a tour I will need that headcount...
So far I've got:

Letty is still alive!

Her Mother just had contact with her - she was in Australia for some time and now is back.

Just a moment ago, Letty's phone was busy, but I will go on trying ...

Susanne (who can't come to Cork) has sent me an email address and a phone number of Letty's parents in the early hours this morning. Before I went to work today, I sent them an email asking about Letty, and when I am back from work, I'll try to phone them (unless I got an answer before that). Hopefully they do understand enough of my broken English or my Deutsch, as I don't speak Dutch at all ...

Last time I was in Cork was 40 years ago. Does that count as being familiar with? They might even have traffic lights by now or accept Euros. Under the clock? I thought it was in the pub with the Guinness sign?

Wolfgang

(Beneath the light-hearted comment I slowly start worrying)

Ryanair have flights from Dublin to Cork for FREE. 33 euros landing charges is all you pay. I have booked into Ambassador Best Western hotel for 50 euros per night. Seems like a high class spot so the price is OK.
I am totally unfamiliar with Cork city so I hope somone will provide a timetable of events and locations so that I can try to familiarise myself with the "Map" before I travel.

The reason the programme's still vague is because it is still 8 months away!

With only two weeks to go, it still seems no less vague. Or have I missed something ?

Does anyone have any idea exactly where in Cork we will be gathering ? If so, would you care to share it ?

I feel honoured sincerely by Greg's kind commemoration and am proud to have qualified by participating only thrice as a furniture.
My only hope is that you do not miss me as a voluptuous waste paper basket full of nonsense, but also as a shelf full of valuable knowledge.

I shall miss you, too, dear friends, and your jolly songs and music. Please give the exact hour in Z-time (mil. for GMT [not daylight saving time!]) when you will drink the warm toast to Skarpi; I shall lift my bumper, too.

My wife is playing lotto again, but I am afraid she will not win in time to pay for a stay with you. With my proverbial luck I do not see any chance to win the money myself.

Sing and enjoy!
Wilfried

Well, I hope you'll all have a smashing time (not literally, of course ...). I won't be coming after all. Sad, as I'd love to see you all again (and I'll miss the trip to Jameson's, of course). But it would have meant postponing my holiday till May, and I'm so knackered I just need it as soon as possible. Also, jetting through the world is not the most relaxing activity I can think of...

However, is there any chance of an English Mudgathering at some convenient festival in, say, September? I'd try to get to that, or else just drop in on the Yorkshire Mudcat stronghold if that's ok.

Anyway, Wolfgang and Andy are sure to represent Germany in style, and I'm pinning my hopes on 2007. Back in Germany, perhaps? Or wherever else Letty is headed next. (And please, Letty, give my regards to your dad. I'm sorry to miss meeting him again.)

Andy,

I must admit that I tend not to look at the little smiley faces that people use as I have to turn my head to the side to understand them and it hurts my neck. But, rest assured, your comments were received in the spirit they were made.

I suppose I should have added some to my reply but, just as I tend to ignore them when reading, it never occurs to me to use them when writing.

As a point of interest to all, I e-mailed Sheila's hostel and it would appear that they have only limited availability for the weekend we are interested in.

Only just caught up with this thread, and am saddened Wilfried will not be joining us this year. Wilfried's a part of the furniture of a Eurogather. You will be sorely missed, old friend.

I looked at them tadpoles and scratched me head; looks like something Oakley scribbled.

Letty,

Re your suggested cultural event of a trip to either Beamish / Jamesons Distillery / Blarney Castle / city tour:

Blarney is the bottom of the list for me, as I can go there on my own, but I have no strong preferences on the others. Whichever is chosen (even Blarney), you can count me in as a participant.

You take either a police cell or anything above a park bench (which probably means a branch of a tree)? ;-)

I have not yet booked a hostel in Cork.
Letty, which is the hostel closest to the action? (Or has by chance someone canceled floor space?)

I've booked the ferry so all I need to do now is sort some accommodation.

I'm fairly flexible – I have a tent and enjoy camping but hotels, hostels or some sort of house sharing all sound fine to me. Basically, I'll take anything above a park bench or a police cell. I'll sleep anywhere but I must have some security for my musical instruments.

I have transport but I would prefer to be able to sample all the delights of old Ireland, rather than having to nurse half a pint of Guinness all evening. If it turns out that the only accommodation is at a distance from the sessions, I could forego the alcohol if there is good music and craic at each end. The most important thing is not to be too far from the action. I don't want to be stuck somewhere on my own, wondering if everyone else is having a good time.

Where is everyone else staying?

I can't come this year, but I have translated a German folk song:
Unsre liebe Kath = our dear Cathy.
For the pronunciation ask Andy aka MudGuard, albeit he comes from the more civilized areas of Bavaria.
It is the fruit of this thread.

That is basically the same as making sentences in English only on the level of words, for in English there is no fixed length limit for sentences and you always can add some more words to enhance the length of the sentence though it may not really improve the understandability while on the other hand it has the advantage that you can be sure that this particular sentence has never before been said or written by anybody else.

No, Greg, it means the

This word can be infinitely prolonged, e.g.
