I'd club babies while they'd squeal Never mind the Greenpeace shpiel. No big deal No big deal Hey, get real! (Optional chorus) Day-vee, Davy Lowston, Killin' the wild Fur Seal...... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Davy Lowson From: Severn Date: 18 Sep 05 - 11:57 AM More seriously, now...... Notes from Sailors, Ships & Chanteys-Louis Killen (Knock-Out KO-03): Most of this version comes from the singing of A.L. (Bert) Lloyd with a couple of verses by a New Zealand group called The Song spinners. Yje song's origin is unknown. It has gone through the oral process. In reality, the person was David Loweriston; his ship was the"Active, its captain's name was Bader. The sealers were set down on an island in Open Bay in February 1910, and all of the sealers were taken off bt the "Governor Bligh" several years later. Hope this helps. I think the notes were Killen's own. Martin Carthy also does a good version. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Davy Lowson From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 19 Sep 05 - 09:36 AM little typo "The sealers were set down on an island in Open Bay in February 1910" 100 years earlier - 1810. It's one of my favourite songs - I have a version by NZ singer Mike Harding & one of my friends also sings it. Mike Harding's version is named "Davy Lowson" sandra |
