I am Marilyn Tucker, co-director of Wren Music who are organising the Baring Gould Folk Festival.

A late addition to the line up is Newfoundland singer Pamela Morgan, singer with folk rock legends Figgy Duff.

While I'm on can I remind you of our study break which this year will run the week following the festival (october half term). This includes unlimited access to the FULL Baring Gould Folk song collection and access to world class tutors who will, this year, have an emphasis on helping you with interpretation and performance. There are opportunities for one to one 'sugeries' and there are trips planned to Lewtrenchard manor and Church - home and church of the Reverend Sabine Baring Gould.

So why shouldn't folk be snazzy!!   Actually Wren Music work all the year round working in schools and in the community bringing folk music into every day lfe. They all work tremendously hard and have brought on so many young musicians. One of their young 'folk choirs' has just come back from South Africa where they have been on tour. Paul Wilson and Marilyn Tucker who run Wren, with the help of a whole team of young folk musicians and singers, work their socks off to promote folk, and particularly the rich heritage that Devon, especially Sabine Baring Gould, has to offer. They are making sure that the local traditions, songs and heritage don't die out. Keep it up Wren. See you at the festival, catters.

21st, 22nd, 23rd October. based in Okehampton, Devon, EX 20 1DW   Contact is Wren Music, 1, St James Street, Okehampton. website www.wrenmusic.co.uk Line up includes Northern Harmony, the shape note choir from the USA, Tickled Pink, Phil Beer, Chris Coe, Simon Care, Jim Causley, David Faulkner ( just hear him play the pipes -stunning), Matt Norman, Nick Wyke & Becki Driscoll (He is a demon fiddle player), etc etc... There is also a study Break for those who want a whole week of master classes, 24 - 28 october, with 3 main areas of study this year - Developing technique, developing repertoire and developing performance skills. Tutore are Paul Wilson, Chris Coe, Martin Graebe ( who knows more about the Baring Gould manuscripts than anyone else in the world!) and Shan Cowan. See you there.

Every event has its own style. If that is the style you like then its worth it. If that isn't your style then you will be dissapointed.

It's a lovely event - more like a village or family party than a festival. It well worth the journey.

YES. Having gone to every single one since the first it gets a real hands up from me! It is not like any other festival you will have gone to. It really has its heart in the West Country and as well as having the usual sings and plays it always has an 'academic side' as well if that is what you are looking for. It started in the village of Bratton Clovelly and this year has had to move as it out grew the village. It has gone to Okehampton, which isn't far from the rest of the world, (down the M5 onto the A30 and turn left)which will give it room to expand. As well as a great line up it does feature lots of local artists. It also has a 'harvest supper' which is always brilliant. DO come. Jon and I will be there and perhaps we could have a drink or two.

There look to be some good acts like Northern Harmony, Phil Beer and Tickled Pink,
and some great ideas for events like the 'singing supper' the 'big sing' and the 'big play',
and even reasonable pricing,
but it's so far from 'main land england'!

Is going all the way to Oakhampton, Devon worth it for the Baring Gould Folk Festival?

On a rainy weekend as well.
