Happy Birthday!

Alexander III, the Great,
king of Macedonia, emperor & stuff like that,

born 9/20/357 bce
(d.6/13/323 bce)

Oh, I'm cool and determined as any salamander, ma'am,
Won't ye come to me wake when I take that long meander, ma'am?
Sure, I'll feel meself as valiant as that famous Alexander, ma'am,
When I hear ye cryin' round me, "Arrah, why did ye die?"

                "Molly Brannigan," Richard Dyer-Bennet "1", 1955; (now in Smith/Folkways.)

DigTrad notes it was "Recorded by John McCormack, [1913] and many lesser lights." Harumph! I don't think of Dyer-Bennett as a "lesser light."
