Couldn't find anything about Gorka or this song in a supersearch. Heard this song on hober, today. Anyone have the lyrics and/or tune? Some of the reviews say the lyrics are some of his weakest, but they worked for me. VERY relevant to today's world.

I did find this write-up on him: click here.

Thanks,

kat

I checked out the song lists on each recording in his discography and did not find a song called "War Makes War"...is it new?

Have you heard him sing "Let Them In" ? I saw him sing it at the 2003 Philadelphia Folk Festival, introducing it as having new relevance since our young troops are in Iraq. It was a powerful performance that hushed the crowd.

Thanks for the link.

From what I found at amazon on this page: click it is on his 2003 album "Old Futures Gone" where there is a small audio sample of it, BUT not the best part of it, imo.

I've just found out about him, never had a chance to see him. Don't know if he ever makes it out to CO, but I will watch for him!

Thanks, again,

kat

I found these words posted at another forum:

WAR MAKES WAR
(John Gorka)

War makes war
It won't bring peace
It just makes more,
Without cease.

Peace is caused by justice.
Peace is caused by trust.
The strength to stop the red, red wheel.
To make it lock and rust.
To make lock and rust.

War makes war,
It won't bring peace.

We can learn from everyone
How to, or not to be.
We can learn the most from those who think differently,
Who think differently.

War makes war
It won't bring peace.
It just makes more,
Without cease.

From the book of Amos
The words went into the dream:
"Let justice run down like water,
And righteousness like a mighty stream.
Righteousness like a mighty stream." *

I do believe there's hope for all
If love is where our trust is.
"The arch of the moral universe is long
But it bends towards justice,
But it bends towards justice." **

War makes war, it won't bring peace.
It just makes more, without cease.
War makes war, makes war, makes war, makes war, makes war....

[*From Amos 5:24. Martin Luther King quoted it in his "I Have a Dream" speech. **From another of MLK's speeches, in Birmingham on March 25, 1965.]
