Subject: Duncan Browne From: number 6 Date: 22 Sep 05 - 12:00 AM I'm listening to an old album by the late Duncan Browne called "Give Me, take You". I beleive it was his first. I bought this back in 1969, and this album brings back a lot of memories. Some very pleasant songs on it such as .. "Chloe in the Garden" and "Ninepence Worth of Walking". Is anyone familiar with his later works? sIx |

Subject: RE: Review: Duncan Browne From: Skipjack K8 Date: 22 Sep 05 - 05:00 AM My late brother Martin was a close friend of Duncan, and I think he played piano on a track called 'Spiders in the bath'. My favourite was 'On the bombsite' from that era. Dunc had a minor hit in the early '70s with 'Journey', which I think made no.22 in the UK charts. The last time I met him was at my brother's funeral in '74, and Duncan was off his face. My brother Chris (infrequently here as Freereeder)has most of Duncan's early work, as he was staying in London with Duncan and Martin in the late '60s, so I'll stir him up for a few memories. Nice to see Duncan's name here. Nice one, 6. |

Subject: RE: Review: Duncan Browne From: number 6 Date: 22 Sep 05 - 09:53 AM 'On the Bpmbsite' is a good one Skip. It's good to hear a reply to this thread ... I know he is somewhat better known in Britain ... certainly at least more than here in Canada and the U.S. ... in fact I'm probably the only one who bought his album over here. I just tranferred that album over to cd last nite. I'd like to hear some of those few memories. sIx |

Subject: RE: Review: Duncan Browne From: GUEST,freereed Date: 23 Sep 05 - 12:37 PM Yes, I remember Duncan well. He was a good mate of my brother Martin (also brother of Skipjack of course) who was tragically killed in a motor accident in 1974. I can claim to have taught Duncan his first chords on the guitar. He and I used to enjoy cooking fish. I was a fishmonger's delivery driver in those days (1967 in London --- yep, the Summer of Lurve). Duncan wrote two songs for Martin. One was Country Song, all about visiting Martin in his country cottage, and My Only Son, which also came out of the same period. Good to see Dunc is still so fondly remembered. He was exceptional in so many ways. |

Subject: RE: Review: Duncan Browne From: number 6 Date: 23 Sep 05 - 04:00 PM Thanks for the post freereed ... I have been listening to Duncan's album (now preserved on a cd) "Give me take You" quite a bit in the last 2 days. It sounds just a fresh as when I first bought it way, way back then. His music is fondly remembered by me. sIx |
