Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: Tinker Date: 25 Sep 05 - 03:14 PM Now Joe, I might have learnt a wee tad bit about the various bits and pieces hanging about and waiting for Getaway. (I did squeeze in two trips to Maine this year.) But as for "Knowledge of and tacit consent to the commission of an illegal act by another " I trust dear Mary to stay JUST this side of the letter of the law... Joe, we were raised good Catholic girls ..... we do understand limits...kinda tink |

Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: Janie Date: 26 Sep 05 - 09:06 AM Which calls to mind "Catholic Girls" from Zappa's Joe's Garage.... Janie |
Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: Tannywheeler Date: 26 Sep 05 - 11:17 AM All this fun/nonsense over goatskin and wood. God Bless the Mudcat Cafe for keeping us dangerous lunatics off the streets and out of jail. Tw |
Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 26 Sep 05 - 11:34 AM Peace, Sinsull. Joe put your post under BS because BS stands for "big sound," and that is what the bodhran produces. My husband is a wonderful bodhran player. He's had one lesson in his life; the rest just came naturally. I hope you have similar good fortune. |

Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: SINSULL Date: 06 Oct 05 - 01:05 PM Final notice! My bodhran has arrived! Does it accompany me to the Getaway where I plan to make a thorough nuisance of myself or will my beloved whale be returned to me safe and sound with or without a harpoon in his gut? SINS |
Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: gnu Date: 06 Oct 05 - 01:28 PM Quiet about the harpoon, now. You have a Hran to protect. |
Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: John MacKenzie Date: 07 Oct 05 - 04:26 AM "Oh...and my plan worked. With the threat of my banging on a drum off key and off beat , the missing whale tambourine has suddenly appeared in the BatGoddess' purse" There's another way of playing them?? Giok ¦¬] |
Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: Tannywheeler Date: 07 Oct 05 - 07:50 PM Sins, if you got a bodhran, it should be automatically included in the trip. They hate to feel left out of your life. They get cranky and irritable, play tricks on you. Save your health and peace of mind: bring it. Tw |
Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: Tinker Date: 07 Oct 05 - 08:12 PM YOu mean she took off with it a second time ???? Perhaps it can accompany Bat Goddess to Getaway. I could finally do Hannah Johnson. It's the hubby's favortie ol blues.... |
Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: billybob Date: 08 Oct 05 - 08:22 PM I just had my settee covered in a lovely dark chocolate leather, on its return the tradesman asked if I had lost the beautifully turned wooden "thingy" he found along with odd coins(mine) and other unmentionables under the upolstery. Is this a"tipper"? And anyone who has enjoyed one of our musical parties over the past 20 years who has lost the stick thing with which to play their Bodhran please contact me and I will return it!! |
Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: SINSULL Date: 08 Oct 05 - 09:17 PM I need a tipper if no one claims it. Right now I am banging on my drum with a wooden spoon. SINS |
Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: John MacKenzie Date: 09 Oct 05 - 05:34 AM If you turn it over Mary and add a little flour eggs milk and sugar, you could make pancakes at the same time! G ☺ |
Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: gnu Date: 09 Oct 05 - 06:35 AM A wooden spoon!! Dear Mother Mary!!! If I could reach, I'd smack ya with it. Put the spoon down and back away from the Hran. Surely you can find a tipper in Portland. My lathe is not set up yet as I have only been in the house for four years. I will draw my favourite tipper design and email it to you. Hmmm... wait. I PM'd skarpi the measurements.... I'll get them and post them. |
Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: gnu Date: 09 Oct 05 - 06:42 AM Here are some typical tippers. My tipper is like third from right. But, the knurl near the middle is offest so that the second knuckle of my index finger is aginst the knurl. I wish I had a picture.... try drawing the following. Starting from one end (these are approximate)... 0mm 0mm diameter 8 22 75 12 120 12 135 20 150 10 170 17 180 20 195 22 205 0 |
Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: jacqui.c Date: 09 Oct 05 - 07:02 AM Thanks gnu - you shouild hear the racket she makes with that wooden spoon. Mind you, it's better than the metal serving spoon she was going to use! |
Subject: RE: Bodhran: Revenge of the whale tambourine From: JennyO Date: 09 Oct 05 - 07:06 AM One of my favourite tippers is one of these, with a centre grip. They are made by a guy called John McKnowall, and they are called The Ratter. They have a rubber ring that you can slide up and down to get different qualities of sound. I thought they would sound too harsh, but mine doesn't. Jenny |
