          September twenty-fifth,
          A raft of oars and timber
          Was there turn'd down adrift.
          Three men to guard this lumber
          And keep it in their view,
          Assay'd to follow after,
          By paddling a Canoe.
  
       4. But soon they were turned over
          By a prodigious swell, 
          And Towne alone escaped
          The heavy news to tell.
          He saw the others floating
          His anguish who can tell?
          Could yield them no assistance;
          Now take a kind farewell.
