Subject: Shrimp boats / crabs
From: Ed Borasky - znmeb@teleport.com

Years ago, I heard a song called "Don't you bother waitin' for the shrimp boats, mama, sister's comin' home with the crabs." All I can remember is the ending:

If the shrimp came over on the shrimp boats, mama, did the crabs come over on the captain's dinghy, Don't you bother waitin' for the shrimp boats, mama, Sister's coming home with the crabs."

Can anyone supply me with the rest of this?

Hmmm. I thought this had been requested more than once. Still hasn't been answered.

There's DON'T WAIT UP FOR THE SHRIMP, MAMA, 'CAUSE DADDY'S COMIN' HOME WITH THE CRABS by Rusty McHugh. You can hear a 30-second sound sample here.

A band called Drunk and Disorderly has recorded DADDY'S COMIN' HOME WITH THE CRABS by Johnny Wilde. That web site has a sound file and lyrics.

Hack Bartley recorded DON'T WAIT UP ON THE SHRIMPBOAT, BABY, 'CAUSE I'M COMIN' HOME WITH THE CRABS. It's available on a sampler CD from Ripete Records.

Another night, another drink, hear the glasses clink clink clink
The woman’s home, she’s all alone, standing by the telephone

So honey don’t boil that lobster
Daddy’s running his bar-tab
Honey don’t boil the lobster
Cause Daddy’s comin’ home with the crabs

That gal is hot, the dinner’s not, it’s laying in the garbage pot
In the aftermath he’ll feel her wrath, he never should have crossed her path

So honey don’t boil that lobster
Daddy’s comin’ home in a cab
Honey don’t boil the lobster
Cause Daddy’s comin’ home with the crabs

Daddy’s comin’ home with the crabs sweet mama
Daddy’s comin’ home with the crabs
So Honey don’t boil the lobster
‘Cause Daddy’s comin’ home with the crabs

He’s out all night, gets in a fight, comes home with the morning light
Something’s wrong while he’s been gone his clothes are laying on the lawn

So honey don’t boil that lobster
Daddy’s got a big bar tab
Honey don’t boil the lobster
Cause Daddy’s comin’ home with the crabs

Daddy’s comin’ home with the crabs oh darlin'
Daddy’s comin’ home with the crabs
So Honey don’t boil the lobster
‘Cause Daddy’s comin’ home with the crabs

Wish I'd known this song back in the 1960s. Oh, do I wish.

It looks like somebody edited my previous post and added some lyrics. I know I didn't put them there because (1) I would never use that kind of formatting; (2) I almost never copy and paste lyrics without adding proper punctuation; and (3) most importantly, I would never post lyrics without saying where I got them.

I looks like those lyrics were copied from http://www.soundclick.com/bands/_music_lyrics.cfm?bandid=124772&songID=840816&keepThis=true&TB_iframe=true&height=530&width=530.

What a wonderfully dysfunctional song.

Sure gives one a lot to think about.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble
