Heard on grapevine there's sometimes a music & song session at the Quiet Woman near Buxton.

Anyone know more?

Sunday afternoons. I don't go very often, as it's mostly slowish English tunes, but it's usually crowded. Get there early, have someone else to drive, drink the beer and buy the cheese.

I went one Sunday lunchtime last year, and it was largely old time/bluegrass. Nice pub in Earl Sterndale. Some Old Time player friends of mine go regularly, as do some musicians of other persuasions. A bit too far from Doncaster, or I'd be a regular.

Yes it's always worth a look in on a Sunday afternoon especially now that most of the festivals are over. Mainly old time and bluegrass as mentioned but always well played and a very nice atmosphere. Good beer and the pub is supposed to be haunted.

It would be useful if those with the details of these sessions could add them to Derby Folk. There is a 'what's on' calendar and a section where details of regular sessions can be posted. Ta.

Attempt No 2 - Derby Folk

Thanks for pointing it out. Creating blue clickies that work on Mudcat is a right pain in the a***!

Well there's no mention at all of the Quiet Woman as I could find on the 'Derby Folk' page.

Does anyone know if there'll be a session there on Easter Sunday?

Derby Folk is a bulletin board where information is added by the users, not the owner. The sessions fall within the area covered by the board so my post was pointing out that there was nothing there and asking if someone could add something.

look I've had a go at logging on to your site and its being a bit of a bugger.

I just want to tell everyone that there is a meeting of the clans at The Old Oak , Horsely Woodhouse starts a three in the afternoon, goes til late in the night. the gang from Spondon Folk Club will be there , and I reckon they're all pretty good. The meeting is in the big conservatory, its a real ale pub and it has a nice landlord and landlady

Sunday April 23rd St George's day - makes you proud to be English.

"weelittledrummer" - Is it that you can't get on at all, or is it just occasionally playing silly buggers when you try to access it? Let me know and I will pass the info on to Howard Mitchell who deals with the techie side of the site.

According to the lady at The Quiet Woman, there hasn't been any music there for a while, as the protagonists have all moved on to pastures new. It was always something of an informal session, and she did say that anyone who wanted to turn up and play could do so.

I was there last Sunday around 2pm and there was no music. However there is a stone (gravestone or road sign) buried within the tree outside on the village green. Can just make out the letters AR and what looks like a royal crest. Anyone know about it ... or do you know a man (or woman) who does?
