Here are the lyrics for Prairie Lullaby written by Billy Hill.

Prairie Lullaby
written by Billy Hill

Shadows slowly creeping down the prairie trail
Everything is sleeping - ah, but the nightingale

Moon will soon be climbing in the purple sky
Night winds all a-humming this tender lullaby.

Cares of the day have fled
My little sleepyhead
Stars are in the sky
Time that the prayers were said
My little sleepyhead
To a prairie lullaby

Saddle up your pony
Sandman's here
To guide you down the trail of dreams
Tumble in bed my tired
My little sleepyhead,
To a prairie lullaby

Saddle up your pony
Sandman's here
To guide you down the trail of dreams
Tumble in bed my tired
My little sleepyhead
To a prairie lullaby

La Salle Music Publishers, Inc. The WMA Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame credit Billy Hill with the song, as do most covers (Doc Watson, etc.).
It is best known through the recording by Jimmie Rodgers, although Doc Watson did a better job (Probably Jimmie Rodgers should be credited with the yodel).
In the Jimmie Rodgers discography: BS73325-2, April 7, 1933, credited to Jimmie Rodgers, George Brown and Billy Hill.

This thread should be combined with thread 20322: Prairie Lullaby

Seems like Kat Laughing asked me for these lyrics ages ago.

Yeah, Kendall, part of it has been THE staple of family lullabys in our family since I can remember. I never knew about the rest of it until you mentioned it and sang it for me. I still love it so much and sing it to my grandson.

Thanks a bunch,

kat

Take your pick. I'll transpose. Or use a capo.
