It's also the anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, 1066.

Well I sang my song at Hastings battle,
To praise the deeds of Charlemagne,
I sang of Arthur and of Roland,

But when the battle cry was over,
They all lay dead on Hastings field.

10/14/1593: death of Arthur, 14th Lord Grey de Wilton (Artegal)(born 1536)
His father, Bill, was a winner in the Battle of Child #172. Art ran Ireland for a while and was defeated in the Battle of
Glenmalure in Wicklow. This really hurt his feelings so he went on to commit enough attrocities to make up for it.

ALSO:
President Bill Clinton awarded Pete Seeger the National Medal of Arts 10/14/1994. This was a fine thing but a tad ironic.
