Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: GUEST,maryrrf at work Date: 08 Nov 05 - 08:04 AM Yep I'm working on it. I was wondering if anybody will be taking the ferry over from Stranrar? We might end up doing that instead of Easyjet. If any Scottish 'catters are going in a vehicle, we could split the costs? Anybody interested? |

Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Letty Date: 08 Nov 05 - 04:25 PM If my car is still alive in February, I'll be passing Dublin. Would be happy to pick up some people. Will have to see if I'm able to make this, as I'm also going to Australia in April and am hosting the Eurogather in May... It's a busy life! Letty |

Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Leadfingers Date: 10 Nov 05 - 06:01 AM Just booked myself in to Barholme - Linda informs me that the Conservatory is 'up and running' so we could possibly have some kind of session there , in between supping the black stuff at Fiddlers Green ! |

Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: GUEST,maryrrf at work Date: 10 Nov 05 - 08:43 AM So what's the usual procedure - do most people stay at the Barholme and then go to the local pubs to make music? |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Leadfingers Date: 10 Nov 05 - 08:44 AM There are NO restrictions on ANY one turning up,although it DOES tend to be Catters and their friends ! WE do of course get 'local' musicians joining in the sessions , and the hostel is open to all visitors to Portaferry , as are the pubs we play in ! |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Fibula Mattock Date: 10 Nov 05 - 09:45 AM Guests are absolutely and totally welcome. It's just a big session weekend, and the fact that some of the people who turn up frequent the Mudcat Cafe is an added bonus as we get to catch up with people we haven't seen for a while. This year it's my birthday, so I'm bringing some of my mates along and they're not remotely into folk stuff. For the benefit of anyone who hasn't been before and is unsure of the set-up: we'll amble to the pubs, have sessions... No formal organisation involved, and no song circles, or indeed tune circles. We want to play music and have songs in the mix too, but it's not some kind of enforced party-piece set up where everyone has to do a turn, hell no! It's just Irish-style sessions in pubs (i.e. the session set-up is Irish style where someone randomly starts a tune and others join in, or maybe someone sings a song, and these may not be Irish tunes or songs - we welcome all) and maybe a wee spot of dancing this year if I'm lucky as I'm really into the set dancing these days. Guinness features largely. |
