I only turned on to Rice, after I heard he played Lightfoot...

I was in the Bluegrass/Folk scene in '72 thru '76...

With Frank Wakefield...

Cafe` Leana... Lightfoot was standard fair...

When I heard Tony...Thanks to Dave Bevins...(Dobro)... I knew I stopped Playing and just list'n too soon....

Anything that the Rice's do is exceptional!!!

Check out his brothers!!! Wyatt and Larry...

By the way, any Gordon Lightfoot fans who also like acoustic/bluegrass instrumentation should check out Tony Rice Sings Gordon Lightfoot on Rounder Records. You can download a clip from Rounder Records website.

THAT SAME OLD OBSESSION
Gordon Lightfoot, 1972, Moose Music, recorded on Old Dan's Records

I come to this garden. I come here to rest, early each day upon rising.
I think of my lost love from over the sea,
And sometimes I wondered if she thinks of me.
I long to recall every kiss, every kind word. I miss her so much I could die.
But the creatures of evil have captured her heart,
And that same old obsession still keeps us apart.

There's peace in the garden. There's peace in the air, peace in the sound of the river.
There's peace in the meadows. The sun shines like gold,
And if she were with me, there'd be peace in my soul.
I long to return to the place. I remember the taste of her lips close to mine.
I could do much better if I could be strong.
Come into my garden, but leave me alone.

I come to this garden. I come here to rest, just as the night comes stealin'.
Someone is weeping. I'm calling her name,
Deep in the garden, deep in my brain.
I long to recall every kiss, every kind word. I miss her so much I could die.
But the creatures of evil have captured her heart,
And that same old obsession still keeps us apart.

HI- I used to sing this G.Lightfoot song, but can only remember 2 verses - is that all there is, or are there more verses or a bridge???:

I come to this garden I come here to rest, early each day upon rising. I think of my true love from over the sea, and sometimes i wonder if he thinks of me.

There's peace in the garden, peace in the air, peace in the sound of the river. There's peace in the meadow, the sun shines like gold, and if he were with me, there'd be peace in my soul (he sure did write some great songs!)

Thanks! Becky Bernson
