From: GUEST,Sooz sans cookie Date: 23 Oct 05 - 05:49 AM I think the bar man was working on the "one for you, one for me" principle!!!:-) Seriously Les, you did a great job, sorry you can't get a pass-out for today and many thanks for your kind words. |
Subject: RE: 'Catters at Gainsborough Folk Festival? From: Chorusgirl Date: 23 Oct 05 - 11:50 AM I agree about all the hard work that goes on by the stalwarts of the Gainsborough Folk Club - I think Friday night at the Old Hall went really well - nice to see so many in attendance swapping between listening to some class acts and dancing their little legs off. Called at EJB's Sat. that was ace - especially rousing was the Nelson's Blood song - really raised the roof. The White Hart was also visited and things were going along nicely. Particularly liked the funny poem about McDonald's - brilliant and the response to our request for the Elephant Man song. Concert was great Sat. night (some even managed to have forty winks whilst there)! Haven't partaken of much more folk today, other than a quick half in EJB's at lunch time where there was a little gathering still going strong. Lovely fiddler, able to accompany any singer with ease - think they were from Sheffield way most of them. Thanks alot enjoyed that. I'm sure I won't be alone in saying that everything was much appreciated and all the hard work by the organisers certainly paid off. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. You'll probably be still going strong trying to sort the stragglers out. Cheers. |

And the artistes, Cloudstreet, Wilson Family, Duncan McFarlane,Julie Felix, Mark Newman, Bob Fox were all so very brilliant, not to mention Skatz, His worship and the Pig and Copper Kettle. Subject: RE: 'Catters at Gainsborough Folk Festival? From: Myrtle Date: 24 Oct 05 - 04:35 AM Always a shame when something wonderful ends, but in this case isn't it an inspiration?! Right, off I go to do some serious practice in the hopes that by next year I may feel able to loose my concertina playing upon an unsuspecting world, and might even be able to sing and play at the same time......might even be the same song, you never know......Thanks to each and all for a wonderful experience. Regards, Myrtle |
Subject: RE: 'Catters at Gainsborough Folk Festival? From: the fence Date: 24 Oct 05 - 04:47 AM Amazing weekend, thanks to all the organisers far too many to mention but they know who they are, also thanks to TA for making the weekend that little bit special, and to all the artists, enjoyed every one of them. The vocal workshop, the guitar workshop and the fantastically friendly atmosphere all went together to make a wonderfull weekend of entertainment. Many thanks to all involved. (SAVE ME A TICKET FOR NEXT YEAR SOOZ). |
Subject: RE: 'Catters at Gainsborough Folk Festival? From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 24 Oct 05 - 04:54 AM Another cracking festival Gromit - too many stars to mention them all but we had some major-league stuff going on there. All of the performers punched above their weight, some well above, and they're all stars as far as I'm concerned. Also stars were the audiences, who sang loud and long in all the right places and made the hard work well worth-while. The buggers drank us out of beer, but our bank manager says we can forgive them for that! :-) And, of course, all those concerned with climbing the mountain of organisation were superstars - thanks guys, you know who you are. And so to next year.......................................! |
Subject: RE: 'Catters at Gainsborough Folk Festival? From: MoorleyMan Date: 24 Oct 05 - 05:05 AM Still recovering but must just post my brief but hearty endorsement to the above highly complimentary posts. Fantastic friendly atmosphere, some great singing, Duncan McF and Cloudstreet definitely big hits, and the Friday Folk Club event went specially well this year.... Very well done Sooz and Mike, and see you again soon. |

Cracking festival, grand folk everywhere. Huge thanks to every one involved. Landlords, staff, workers, artists, paying public.. I met so very many wonderful people... Arrrgh, the mind boggles and by making a list I'll miss summat out! Been before? Keep going! Never been? Go next year, feel it for yourself. Congratulations - a beautiful festival. Thankyou one and all. (I notice there are two threads on this 'line', so I'll copy and paste this to t'other as well - as it's worth saying twice). Cheers! - HipflaskAndy - Duncan McFarlane |

Best expeience for me was the Wilson's 'Wall of Sound' doing the harmonies when I was singing 'The Beaches of Saint Valery' it was mega double fantastic |
