Happy Birthday!

Derek Bell, MBE (June 2000)

born October 21, 1935 in Belfast
(d. Oct 17, 2002)

Classical & etc. musician on English horn, dulcimer, oboe, harpsichord, mediaeval harp, Kurzweil synthesizer, organ, piano, keyboard & tiompán (hammer dulcimer). He was a Chieftain from 1974 to his death in Oct. 2002. Said to be the world's leading Irish harpist, Bell brought to the world the music of Turlough O' Carolan (1670-1738)

A super musician and a beautiful man, he joined the Chieftains in 1974 for one concert, Paddy Maloney liked him so much he kept him.
