This was rather fun. Spot on performance by Jazzle largely Django Rheinhardt stuff. Just been phoned back later.

Now where was I?

Yes, pished in the Barge! Parking there is such a bitch.

Arrived about 4-ish. Pleasant melodious stuff from Debri.

Shortly after that Jeff and I were called for a set (almost totally unrehearsed) and I think we must have played for nearly an hour. He is so good! Thanks Dan for sitting in on bass on the 12-bars. Shame about Maui - one song too many (plenty of others on the list of possibles but my bad choice), but I wanted to do something additional that was both English and nautical as a finale at a Nelson day.

PA of variable quality. Foldback especially a problem. Tended to emphasise problems rather than help to cover them. Issue really is that audiences today are conditioned to talk over PA, and so shout louder and louder, and you can hear them on-stage. So PA is turned up. So foldback is turned up. So feedback (guitar tops getting hit by loud foldback) becomes an issue. Out front vocal PA was not too bad but acoustic guitar sounds were not ringing true at all.

Other performers of variable quality but Gastove is always good.

Honourable mention for Ray but I feel he would have been happier with his Yamaha than my Martin.

Soundman who apparently teaches at UKC also played my Martin. Martin 1, player 0.    Maybe he ought to have been playing a classical guitar. I had the impression he taught guitar or music. I hope not. His set was vocally adequate (in a sort of modern style) - but not of guitar teaching standard. He must have been wincing when Jazzle came on next.

Additional very honourable mention for the guy I know but whose name I always forget with one of the rarest acoustics I have ever seen, a Zemaitis. Stonking guitar - but not bugged so capturing and projecting on a mic in the environment trick.

Then we left (about 10-ish) so that Jeff who was driving and so designated could have a beer or 6.

I was there at 12:45 pm. Myself, Brian and Marion Rodgers kicked the proceedings off as a nautical trio called 'The Press Gang'. Sang a couple of Cyril Tawney songs and some others that I don't remember. Unfortunately I had to leave just after half past two as we were booked that evening at The Upnor Sailing Club once again as 'The Press Gang' but we had a great night, with a very appreciative audience. It meant that I missed Capella doing a stint. Had some problems with the P.A. too - it wouldn't work at first, and when it did my guitar seemed to be all bass and hardly any top end. It was fine on the night so it had to be either the settings on the mixer, or possibly the digi-box. I hope it went well though, and that plenty was raised for the RNLI.

Gosh John, you got to the pub before me. Shock horror!

Guitars were sounding very bassy on stage, but all treble and no bass out front!

Just as well, in one sense, we did not cross paths - Brian has not yet heard the B-band in my Martin and it would not have been an auspicious sound rig for the first time for him to do so.
