From: Georgiansilver

Having heard several people say so...and from what I saw myself....the Gainsborough Folk Festival was a great success and the best so far. Very encouraging to hear and to know that perhaps next year could be even better.
Heartiest Congratulations to Mr and Mrs SOOZ, whose tireless works and organisation go to make it the success it is. I felt this praise would reflect the views of all at Gainsborough Folk Club and many others throughout Lincolnshire who know them and was worthy of its own thread.....in praise of two people whose talents are not confined to performing but to organising.....encouraging.....prompting.....and keeping Folk Live in our area.
Best wishes to you both.#

Many thanks to the marvellous Soozes!

I had an absolutely fabulous weekend.
Cracking festival, grand folk everywhere.
Huge thanks to everyone involved.
Landlords, staff, workers, artists, paying public..
I met so very many wonderful people...
Arrrgh, the mind boggles and by making a list I'll miss summat out!

Been before? Keep going!
Never been? Go next year, feel it for yourself.

Congratulations - a beautiful festival.
Thankyou one and all.
(I notice there are two threads on this 'line', so I'll copy and paste this to t'other as well - as it's worth saying twice).

Cheers! - HipflaskAndy - Duncan McFarlane

I managed to get there for the Sunday and for the first time saw a full set from Duncan Mc Farlane and His Worship and the Pig ~ i am usually elsewhere!! at Festivals

I found them both entertaining and highly competent

Also the first time i can remember ever seeing Julie Felix although I know I have ~

To see her championing the causes of American Indians and Spanish decendants in the US and Mexico as well as the more topical issues of US and Uk involvement in Iraq says a great deal for this 67 veteran.

Her singing and intonation are both faultless and her enthusiam without question

The Trinity Arts Centre venue is ideal for such concerts and the joining in on Sunday made for an intimate gathering

Well done to Mr and Mrs Sooz and all the people involved in presenting this as Johnny said the best Gainsbrough FF to date
Ray

Please excuse me butting into this thread...Sounds as though you all had a great time. I know from experience that music events don't just happen, so well done to all who worked hard on the event. (Don't like to be familiar but that sounds as though 'Mr and Mrs Sooz' were a big part of that!) We still haven't managed to get to any events Gainsb' way but only ever hear great things about you all over there! Long may all this wonderful live music happen in our beautiful part of the country. Is great to get to know some more musicians and music lovers through Les's club and hope to get to your club soon. Thanks to all who work so hard and maybe see some of you soon.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make today (Sunday).

However, I have to say what a lovely Friday and Saturday I had.

I am not going to single any one artist out as I think they all contributed to a smashing 2 days of folkmania. Its a team effort.

I would like to praise the committee of the Gainsborough Folk Festival for the unselfish hard work that they put in to make the two days that I saw work so very well. I was well impressed :-) It is so easy just to go to the festival and enjoy it, with very often little thought to the massive amount of hours put in unpaid to make it a success.

The real ale on the Friday evening must have been really good, becuase the buggers drank it dry before the evening had finished :-)

Ditto to all of the above! An organisational tour de force.

And I know S&MrS won't mind me mentioning certain others whose efforts, whilst less 'high profile', made life a little less hectic for them and me - BusyBeePaul for manning (womanning?) the Festival Office and keeping clear and concise records of the myriad transactions that took place, The Villan for pint-pulling (although I reckon half the barrel went down his neck!), Hipflask Andy, The Fence and Myrtle for for assisting with furniture removals at the GOH on Saturday (blast, there goes another fingernail!), and Technical Tel for his due diligence on the sound. Good guys, all of 'em.

although there is a mountain of stuff to do - I'm still too high to even contemplate it!.

SJ: "clear and concise records"... just remember that I do creative accounting every day!.

Must get the wages finished now, if only I could find my "non-folky" head somewhere. Anyone seen it?. I guess it's probably with Sue's coat and Hipflask's glasses!.

Only just got back in after a busy morning (found myself being interviewed for Look North amongst other things)

Thank you all for your lovely generous comments! (Warm glow :-))The team does need to share the credit though. The raffle ticket sellers, pint pullers, furniture shifters, and allied trades are all vital to the success of the event.

Off for a lie down now.

Well, it's really good to see this thread & I must admit I was very tempted by the Gainsborough Fest threads to come up last weekend. Now I just wish I had, will look out for it next year, bit too early to let us know dates eh?

Well done the Sooz's!

He's just trying to impersonate Bill Whaley. Still, it's an improvement on his impersonation of a certain well-known Australian! LOL!
