Subject: RE: Anyone using cakewalk? From: BTMP Date: 27 Oct 05 - 11:42 AM There are places on the web where you can still get GT Pro 2, e.g. TigerDirect.com advertizes $69. I also have the GT Pro 3, but I encountered more technical issues and problems than I wanted to deal with, so I went back to GT Pro 2. Since my music is mostly acoustic, folk/bluegrass genre, GT Pro 2 does everything I need. -btmp |
Subject: RE: Anyone using cakewalk? From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 27 Oct 05 - 09:22 AM That's true, Eric: I should have clarified which Cakewalk product I'm talking about. Cakewalk Pyro is software specifically for burning CDs from already recorded sources... other CDs, tapes or records. It is not their home studio... which looks great, but far beyond what I am looking for. I started another thread which no one responded to that stated my purpose.. burning CDs on a computer from tapes. I am currently using Easy CD Creator, which is decent, but has very little control over eq and volume. Cakewalk makes the Cakewalk Pyro software which does the same thing, but appears to have much more control over the editing... eq, noise control and volume. I have many songs which I recorded of my quartet that were done with a mike for each voacl and one for guitar, that I can mix down to two tracks. I want to make the best CD from those tracks, and just need something to clean up, equalize and balance the volume of the individual tracks in order to burn them to a CD. Cakewalk Pyro costs $39.95. It doesn't have any of the bells and whistles that I don't want... drum machines, complicated imset capabilities... It's not a "home studio," It functions only to produce a good quality CD from other sources that are already recorded and mixed. It sounds like an upgrade over Easy CD Creator, and I think I'm going to give it a try. Sure wish I knew someone who had used this particular software.. Thanks for responding.. Jerry |

Subject: RE: Anyone using cakewalk? From: BTMP Date: 26 Oct 05 - 01:17 PM I use Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro 2 but did not respond to your other thread because it sounded like you were looking for a more simplistic solution. First of all, I use Cakewalk primarily for home recording of my own solo projects, and projects for the bluegrass band I play in. My setup uses a small Behringer mixing board into which I can plug mics, CD players, tape players, turntables, etc. and the board output feeds into the line in (or mic) jack of my computer. Once I adjust for the level of the input device via the board, I record the input into Cakewalk. For tapes and records, I also use the RayGun 2.0 noise reduction software which does a fair job of reducing (not eliminating) the hiss and pops. I also have the BBE sound enhancing software which can be used with Cakewalk. The BBE is great for live recordings. The Cakewalk then can mix the audio to a .WAV file which can be borned to a CD using your Roxio or whatever. There are many products out on the market today that can provide this form of audio copying. My setup is cheap (I have more money in my mics than board & software) and very versatile. There are probably simpler ways to just get a tape or record to CD, however. Regards, BTMP |

Subject: Anyone using cakewalk? From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 25 Oct 05 - 09:14 PM Alright, there's more than one way to skin a cat (Animal Rights Activists, loosen up.) I started a thread on cutting CDs from casettes on computer and no one responded. Seems to me that on other related threads some folks have mentioned that they use Cakewalk software for burning CDs. I am interested in burning several tracks that I recorded on my 8-track cassette machine to CD, using my computer. I am using Easy CD Creator 4 Deluxe, which works o.k. but reading about Cakewalk, it sounds like it has more capability for modifying the imput. Any Cakewalkin' Babies From Home out there? Jerry |
