Looking forward to Friday and thanks for confirming Helian Keys spot in December, Les. I think Ian may be hitching a lift with Twangy, hopefully, on Friday.
Incidently, we once recorded a Helian Keys song with some of the Wild Wolds Women and the one and only, Oaklet, from Cara...it was great and a shame we weren't organised enough to play that on Friday within our set but maybe another time! (A challenge.... Mr Oaklet, sir?!!!)

Don't hold your breath. Words like doddering and dilatory spring to mind. When I did my live spot on BBC Radio Lincs I had to wait about three or four months for a CD, and then it was just the songs - no interview on there.

Jane was a star. I knew she would be - great talent will out. :-)

Thanks for that. We didn't get a decent quality tape but I will ask around and maybe transfer it onto cd that way. Maybe Radio Lincs will still deliver what they said they could. If not, it would be better if they made up an excuse in the first please rather than making people hang around and wait for something that was not going to appear. I will remain optimistic for a little while and who knows...

HHHmmm its amazing how many famous and tallented people you get to meet in this area.
I expect it will be another great evening at the Market Raison Folk Club!
It would be nice to see some newbies in a sort of a learners slot though,as there arent many places locally that encourage those of us who might not quite have worked ourselves up to such a high standard as some of you guys have done.
Would be quite a boost to the ego to appear with the likes of JK Rockhen,Cara T and G,et al.
There must be somewhere for new faces to get the experience and thrill of a chance to learn art of performing to such a freindly and knowledgable audience. It would certainly be a thrill to help to bring on the next generation of musicians wouldnt it?
Trouble is it would need a chap of vision and inexhaustable love of music to arrange matters and the only Les I know is already doing a reet good job at MRFC.

Hi, TTT, I need to identify who you are tomorrow night!! I've thought about said dilemma and feel reaonably comfortable with the fact that Gainsborough, Lincoln and Epworth all provide singaround situations welcoming all...Have yet to visit Lincoln myself, as I'm busy supporting Les and Mr & Mrs. Sooz!!... I find the new 25 minute spots at MRFC a bit daunting myself, so I know what you mean, but...I basically agree with Les' policy and also agree he is doing a great job...it should inspire us to work harder, do you think??? 'Meet you' tonight..JK
Having said all of that...I guess the first 25 mins, could be used as a time for several performers to give 1 or 2 songs/tunes to build up confidence...I don't know??

Tim, thankyou for the kind comments. MRFC is purely concert style and requires a performer to be able to do a 25 minute floorspot or 45 minutes or more. I do not intend to change that format.

However there are numerous singarounds out there where everybody gets a chance to sing or play, irrespective of what the standard is. Sometimes people feel a bit uneasy about going to a new club and partaking in the singarounds. The clubs mentioned below and reasonably local to North Lincolnshireites will make such people very welcome and you will not be excluded.
Gainsborough Folk Club on Alternate Fridays to MRFC
Grimsby Folk Club on alternate Sundays
Epworth Folk Club on alternate Mondays
Louth Folk Club on alternate Tuesdays
Alford Accoustic on Alternate Wednesdays

If somebody thinks they are ready to jump up a step and start doing 25 minute floorspots, then they only need to let me know and we can discuss how to bring them into the flock at MRFC. Normally, if they are ready, then I will probably get to know about it and will make the effort to see them live.

I am always on the lookout for new performers and will always do my best to help and advise making that step up to MRFC.

It goes without saying that a performer needs to be within the boudaries of what is acceptable at MRFC. I think you would agree that it is pretty varied to say the least.

I personally cannot take on anymore than what I am doing at the moment.

Proud to be a Yallowbelly comes to mind....I believe we are really blessed in Lincolnshire with a diversity of clubs and talent. There is always something going on if sought!....I particularly love Gainsborough club as the organisation (thanks again Mr and Mrs Sooz) atmosphere, encouragement,the welcome for newcomers and most of all the people who attend are so....how can I say it......RIGHT! that's the word...RIGHT!

I made a decent recording of Jane's broadcast on tape,
but I can transfer it to CD if you wish.

Just one snag however! It will cost you £1000 at least, cos that's

On top of that you have the session clubs, where people can hone up on their instrument skills. Such places as Barton On Humber and Louth. Can't quite remember what days they are on.

I am still amazed at the quality of folk music that exists in Lincolnshire and feel very honoured and proud to be able put such wonderful performers on at MRFC.

Anyway, I will as usual be looking forward to tonights gala of beauties. That includes Cara of course :-)

What can I say Eric!!!!! I don't even have a quid to my name, so will have to pass up the chance. Anyway welcome to Mudcat.
Instead, I will have to listen to her lovely voice tonight, along with the rest of the flock.
If you are coming along to support her tonight Eric, don't forget to bring your own drinks and food as there isn't a bar. Likewise it is now customary to bring candles along to give a glowing feeling to the evening. :-)

What a thoroughly amazing evening. A very special thanks to all the performers for making it such a smashing evening. Anybody got any idea how many different instruments were played tonight and what they were.

And another very special thanks to all the people that came along. Over 60 people including the performers. Unbeleivable. Thought I was going to have to close the doors.

We had a great time, and enjoyed playing once I got rid of large frog in my throat in first song! Was a great night, loved hearing the other performers, too. Feel as though we are starting to get to know more people too. A really special night, thank you all!

Wasnt it brilliant and a lot of the good vibes are from the audience so big round of applause for us too!
It must be really hard to be in the top spot and then sit there for a couple of hours watching one excellent performance after another and wondering how high exactly you will have to lift your game.
As always felt most welcome and even on chilier evenings there is definatly a warmth to all the people there that adds so much to the ocassion.
Our apologies for running out before the end yet again,
it is good for Charlie to see and hear music performed and she really loves it but she is five so maybe I expect bit too much from her?

Louth folk club is every 2nd and 4th tuesday of the month, which can be a bit tricky in a 5 week month(two week break). It welcomes new performers and encourages you to improve with advice and tips coming from anyone you would care to ask. The encouragement and advice I received was fantastic, but saying that, Gainsborough is also of the same ilk. A wonderful club to visit and play, where the effort taken to get up and do something is appreciated as much as the people who come along on a guest night and perform for a fee. To be honest I like Market Rasen(Faldingworth) Club because I am able to sit relax and listen to some fantastic talent and diversity of music and instruments. Like anything, all clubs have their plus and minus. It must take a lot of effort to organise any of the above events and it is greatly appreciated by the people in the audience!!!

Pitched it right there Phil. You really missed a cracking night last night. BBP ( who I called Audrey for some daft reason - a bit like Duncan Mcfarlane wearing somebody elses glasses without even realising LOL) reserved you and Myrtle seats. Never mind.

Don't like the hard centres eh Tim - must be to do with the fillings then!!!!!!! I hope you are not too hard with Charlie - she does very well. You are lucky, my daughter went at the interval because she can only mange half the night.

Sorry about that Les, something cropped up that made it impossible to get there, doesnt happen very often, but when it does there is nothing you can do about it. Well the previous call to confirm dates was to a rugby union club house also about music so was easily confused,but rang her back and explained that I am an idiot then all was fine

I am 74 and I don't look a day over 62....Keep your sense of humour and chill cos failing eyesight deceives you into not noticing any increase in wrinkles so as long as you are lucky enough to be healthy-ish, you can pretend to be youthful for as long as you have the strength, or can be bothered. Yep Strollin', its a pain in the arse.

One of my new neighbours was coming to the folk club last Friday for the first time. Just as she was about to leave, a set of exploding fireworks went off close by and frightened hers dogs. Consequently she had to stay with them.

Ah well, hopefully she will come to the next one.
