Well we've had Nelson. How about this. Apart from the one I have from Barry Skinners Bed, Battle and Booze LP (Remember LP's?)
"I sing an doleful tragedy, Guy Fawkes the Prince of sinisters" etc. Are there any more? Doesn't have to be doleful.

Guy Fawkes.
I'll tell you a doleful tragedy
Guy Fawkes, the prince of sinisters
Who once blew up the House of Lords
The King and all his ministers
That is, he would have blown them up,
And we would ne'er forget him,
his will was good to do the deed
If they had only let him.

Straightway he came from Lambeth side
And wished the State was undone;
And crossing over Vauxhall bridge
That way he came to London;
That is, he would have crossed the bridge
To perpetrate his guilt, sir,
But a trifling thing prevented him,
The bridge it was not built, Sir.

And as he searched the dreary vaults
With portable gas light, sir,
About to touch the powder train
At the witching hour of night, sir;
That is, he would have used the gas,
Had he not been prevented;
But gas you know, in James's time,
It hadn't been invented.

Now, when they caught him in the act,
So very near the Crown's end,
They sent straightway to Bow Street for
That gay old runner Townsend;
That is, they would have sent for him
For danger, he's no starter at
But Townsend wasn't living then,
He wasn't born till arter that.

So then they put poor Guy to death
For ages to remember,
And now they kill him every year
In dreary, dark November;
That is, his effigy, I mean
For truth is strange and steady,
They cannot put poor Guy to death
For he is dead already.

Fidjit, It's part of the Lewes Bonfire Boys song. I can only remember,

Remember, Remember
the 5th of November
For Gunpowder, treason and plot,
For I see no reason,
why gunpowder treason,
Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy,
it was his intent,
To blow up the King and the Parliament,
3 score barrels down below
Would prove Old England's overthrow,

Remember, remember etc.

I know I have it all somewhere and when I find it, I'll post the rest, unless someone else can.

P.S. Forgot to say that his descendant, Guy Fawkes, is alive, well and living in Bodmin, Cornwall, where he has an electrical business. Imagine my face when I pulled up at school a few years ago to find his van parked there.

I hadn't come across the song that Bill posted before. Am I correct in assuming that it is sung to the tune of "The Vicar of Bray", as it fits perfectly!

This Bodliean Broadside has an extra verse to Bill's version and also a refrain.

Guy Fawkes

This is the full version of the song that Cats gave above.
I've transcribed it from the Bodleian Broadside HERE.
Unfortunately a date is not given.

The Downfall of Guy Fawkes

Good gentlefolks pray
Remember this day
Which to your kind notice we bring
Here's the figure of sly
Old Villainous guy
Who wanted to murder the king
With powder a store
He bitterly swore
As he sulk'd in the vault to prepare
How the Parliament too
By himand his crew
Should all be blown up in the air

So please to remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot
We know no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot

But James very wise
Did the Papists surprise
Who plotted the cruelty great
He guessed their intent
And Suffolk was sent
Who saved both the kingdom and state
With a lantern was found
Guy Fawkes underground
And quick was the traitor bound fast
They said he should die
So hang him up high
And burn him to ashes at last

Then please to remember etc.

So we once a year
Go round without fear
To keep in rememberance the day
With assistance from you
To bring to your view
Guy Fawkes again blazing away
While with cracker and fire
In the fullest desire
In his chair he thus merrily burns
So jolly we'll be
And shout may we see
On this day many happy returns

So please to remember etc.

Then halloo, boys! halloo, boys! shout and huzza
Halloo, boys! halloo, boys! keep up the day
Halloo, boys! halloo, boys! let the bells ring
Down with the pope and god save the King
Hurrah ! Hurrah ! Hurrah !

Nice one Nutty. But, there must be others surely? Alan, can't imagine that you had not heard that at the "Trub". I must have sung it myself at sometime. However, just looked up Barry Skinners LP for notes and guess what. Wasn't there. Now where did I get that one from. Oh dear a lot of water under the bridge.

Not 'The Vicar of Bray', but 'Bow Wow Wow'; a very common tune in its day. Prince of Sinisters has been posted here many times, mostly by Conrad Bladey. See various earlier threads.
