In 1750 Dr Walker found & navigated Cumberland Gap and led a party through to the west. Boone later followed Walker's trail and laid it out more clearly.

          He killed Injuns with his old flintlock.
  
             Cumberland Gap, Cumberland Gap,
             Way down yonder in Cumberland Gap.

This trail later became the Wilderness Trail.
