Subject: MGAS gotta Gig St Albans UK, 18th Nov 05 From: My guru always said Date: 02 Nov 05 - 03:25 PM Well, Breezy's scraping the bottom of the barrel here, coz he's asked me to do the 18th November at the Wandering Windward Club. But I took him at his word and I'm looking forward to coming back to my 'old home' club (they're pretty classy Singers there) *grin* I can't be absolutely certain at this stage, due to the Wandering nature of the club, but I think it might be at the Comfort Hotel - then again, it could be at the Duke of Marlborough - who can say? But if you're able to come along I'll be glad to see you there, bring a smile & your voice & let's have a good sing! |

Subject: RE: MGAS gotta Gig St Albans UK, 18th Nov 05 From: My guru always said Date: 06 Nov 05 - 06:58 AM LOL Breezy!! What rehearsals???? But seriously, I'm in the process of deciding which songs to sing, seem to have far too many good ones to choose from. Got a list of Definites & another of Possibles (you can tell I'm an Administrator can't you?). I'm trying to make it a good mix of old favourites and newer ones you may not have heard me sing before (unless you've been to all the Festivasls I have). There's even one song I haven't sung out anywhere yet, but I'm hoping it'll be ready. Good choruses, definitive ballads, tear-jerkers & laughter (there should be something to enjoy in that lot)!! And of course, I'm hoping that Breezy might accompany a few too (Don't let that put you off though, we who know Breezy also know that he can behave very well indeed... at times....). And you never know, there might be a bag of doughnuts as a raffle prize - How can you resist? |

Subject: RE: MGAS gotta Gig St Albans UK, 18th Nov 05 From: My guru always said Date: 20 Nov 05 - 07:34 AM Well, what a fantastic evening, thanks to all who came along and for all your kind words. Huge thanks to Breezy for giving me the opportunity and also to Singing Ref for being a superb MC and giving me such a good build-up! Coming back to my home club brought back lots of memories and I wish I'd had a chance to chat with old friends, but I must admit, I was trying to concentrate so as not to let the side down. It was lovely to see Moses perform on her own turf, ably accompanied by combinations of Singing Ref, Breezy & Fleggy on a variety of her songs. Good to hear Lanfranc too & was delighted to have Micca, catsPHiddle & Lady Lanfranc at the club too! El Greko and La Inglesa were missed, but we managed to fill the gap I think! As Breezy says, I have progressed to standing up & singing for some songs, not all though! (give it another couple of years before I lose the nervous 'leg-wobble' altogether) Strangely enough, that special raffle prize I managed to donate after threatening to for all these years, didn't materialise in the end. But Breezy's regulars are quite used to the raffle I think *grin* Brackenrigg's extended spot took us by storm & were an absolute pleasure to listen to! Good to meet another MudCatter, Spot, but didn't find out if Bruce was a Catter too..... As to what happened, in case those who weren't there are interested, the songs I sang were as follows: Young Banker - Trad After the Goldrush - Neil Young Searching for Lambs - Trad The Dutchman - Michael Smith (ably accompanied by Breezy) Withered & Died - Richard Thompson (with Breezy on guitar) Dead Knight Behind the Hedge - Jon Heslop Irish Ways & Irish Laws - John Gibbs The Journey - Mick Ryan *************** A Hill so High - Chris Flegg (requested by the Author, Fleggy, who also thankfully prompted the first words of one verse) Sisters of Mercy - Leonard Cohen Mary Mack - from the singing of Jake Mitchell of Peterhead The Last of the Great Whales - Andy Barnes The Ranter - Trad (as far as I know) The Weaver's Four Daughters - Spurlock (anyone know the first name?) When the Green Man Walks the Forest - Graeme Miles Caledonia - Dougie MacLean (expertly accompanied by Breezy) The Rain is Falling - George Papavgeris, our own El Greko (accompanied & with a very special introduction by Breezy) A total of 17 songs which left me a little hoarse I must confess! Loved every minute of it though.... Thanks All!! |

Subject: RE: MGAS gotta Gig St Albans UK, 18th Nov 05 From: Harmony Angel Date: 21 Nov 05 - 09:29 AM I thought she was brilliant too!!!! Subject: RE: MGAS gotta Gig St Albans UK, 18th Nov 05 From: breezy Date: 21 Nov 05 - 04:15 PM I would hope the high spots are yet to come if she can be given the right stage She had performed 3 times at the Spotlight building up to this full gig. cllr gave her a chance during the brief ampthill period and she justified his belief this girl can sing and put a highly entertaining programme together, so come on you 'clubs' here is a mudcatter that can perform. |
Subject: RE: MGAS gotta Gig St Albans UK, 18th Nov 05 From: Cllr Date: 21 Nov 05 - 07:15 PM I have to agree with Breezy (dagnabit) MGAS has an exceptional "voice" and a fantastic range of songs to go with it. I have my favourites but it is always difficult to request in case you miss out on something new. In over twelve years of booking acts in three different clubs I have not often booked purely unacompanied solo artists before but I would not hesitate to book her again or recommend her to other organisers Cllr |

Thanks Breezy & Cllr for your kind words, you have me blushing.... *cheque's in the post guys* Seriously though, if it weren't for 'friends like these' I wouldn't be able to stand up (or sit down) and sing at all. So, thanks guys, you know who you are.... Hi there Harmony Angel, you've come in 'off the side' have you? Welcome to the Cat! CD's received today thanks, but it'll be a while before I can start having a play with them. Will have a listen as soon as I can though & see if there's anything any decent on them. And now for Bedd'uth!! |
