I just bought myself a copy of O'Leary & Hildebrand's "Together Again ... Again" CD!
I had previously heard a couple of teaser tracks, thanks to Stewie in Darwin, when last staying with him, but only just got round to tracking the CD down to the on-line "Trad & Now" cattledog.

VERY enjoyable, Joybell !!! (16 great tracks, folks!)

Now I want to know how to purchase yours and his "Still a Mem'ry Living" CD!!!!

What's the go, Girl??!!

Cheers! R-J

PS        LOVED reading your diary of your recent USA trip - very evocative! Look forward to meeting you both next year!
(er ... you ARE still coming to Quoinsland, aren't you???!!!)

um ... I still couldn't find that particular CD there ... is that what you meant, Sandra?

(oh, maybe you just meant for everyone to checkout Trad&Now - good idea!!! :~)))

Cheers! R-J

I did start writing that T'n'N is one of the best sites to get Oz music, except for the missing "Still a Mem'ry Living" but I got lost in a very convoluted sentance, so I deleted it.

I've had a copy for a while, I bought it off Joy & Hildebrand some years before Joy became Joybell! It's a great album.

OOOOOOOOOOOOH! EEEEEEEEY! A thread about us. Hildebrand always said the best way to become a legend is to be secretive and have people search us out.
R-J send me a PM and I'll give you our email address. I can send you a copy of "Still a Mem'ry Living". It's a sort of his and hers mixture of songs with O'Leary playing on most tracks too.
"Together Again Again" has some great tracks doesn't it. The Hildebrand and O'Leary combination is a winner.

The "Joybell's American Adventure" thread stopped allowing me to post to it so it sort of trailed off - and before we got to Amos. I could post a new thread with "American Adventure last bit" if any one is interested.

Anyway - yes we'll be heading for Queensland about next May. I'll bring you some copies of old Hildebrand recordings we've put on CD as presents for you R-J - and for all of the other Mudcatters along the way.
So pleased about the interest R-J. Thank you. Cheers, Joy

You should also purchase Joybell's 2003 album of story songs, Joy, with harmony vocals and accompaniments by Hildebrand and much behind-the-scenes input from O'Leary

Snuffy I'm so glad you liked that one. O'Leary taught me how to do the mastering for it myself and I never could have managed it without his help. That was the year we had 200 christmas decorations labled "JOY" because somehow I gave a data disk to the copy place. O'Leary, being the gallant friend that he is, said he might have led me astray there. Anyway it's lucky my name fits so well with Christmas.
                Cheers, Joy

PS   but c'mon - tell us more about your story songs CD, Joybell (we're all sitting comfortably!!!)

I'll do the last half of the Adventure. So glad you're interested.

The CD "JOY" was made so that I could record some of my very favourite songs - even a few Hildebrand doesn't like much - "The Glens of Sweet Mayo", "Little Tillie's Grave", "Ring Down the Curtain I Can't Sing Tonight", "Little Rosewood Casket", "The Mistletoe Bough".
Also some forgotten ones - "Isle of Beauty Fare Thee Well", "Young Girl Cut Down in her Prime". There's also a version of "The Titanic" learned from an old Stoneman Family record played on my cousin's antique gramophone. There are two songs I've been singing for over 40 years that came to be popular again - "Hard Times" and "How Can I Keep from Singing" - I remember when even the Folkies didn't know them. (My Dad taught me "Hard Times" when I was 5.) There's also "Dream of the Miner's Child", "The Sad Song", "You've Been a Friend to Me", "When the Iceworms Nest Again" - Recipe for making Iceworms available on request!)

Snuffy referred to them as "Story Songs" because there's a line across the top of the label that says, - a love of strange and beautiful old story songs - It appeared out of the inside notes somehow during the printing and I decided it fitted. The printer didn't know how it happened. It might just as well have said, - poor drooping maiden - or hard at work in a factory - or something but it didn't. They are all story songs. Funny thing!
I made the CD at a time when my voice looked like fading out on me (connective tissue disease) Thought I'd better record while I still could. Cheers, Joy

more Adventures - yah!

Joybell, is this trip to sunny Qld going to include NSW or more specifically Sydney? If Sydney is included, aim for teh end of the month, then you talented folks can sing a song or 2 at Sydney's best acoustic space, the Loaded Dog (normally 4th Saturdays, but 5th Sat in April only)

I received, direct hand-to-hand from Joy and Hildebrand, both CDs, Still a Mem'ry Living and Joy when that delightful duo stopped at our house in Indianapolis for lunch and an all-too-short song session.

I haven't QUITE worn the CDs out yet, but I've listened a lot, and both CDs are wonderful! Several songs on there are working their way into my repertoire.

Would you believe we just, roday, got the photo processed that I took of you two when you were running around the USA!? ------------- I will be sure to scan it and send it on.

Thank you so much Art. We'd love that.

Uncle DaveO we often think of you both. We had such a lovely time there even though it was short. Just as we had such a great time with Art and Carol. We play your CD all the time too. And I'm singing some of your songs.

What a wonderful time we had visiting the Mudcat family members.

Sandra, That would be great. A Sydney visit is possible but scary. If we can work out a way to stay out somewhere, leave the van, and catch a train or something it might be a goer. We'd surely love to play at the Loaded Dog. Thanks for the dates. Cheers, Joy

Hi Joy. Don't forget there's me and John in Sydney too. Now I'm thinking about what you could do with the van while in Sydney. We live on a corner with a large backyard and a side entrance where vehicles can drive in. We usually park inside. How big is your van? We've had Evan and Lyn Mathieson here with their big monster, "The Tardis", but we had to park out in the street while they were here because they couldn't get clear enough of the driveway. But it might be possible. We wouldn't mind parking out in the street for a day or two anyway.

We are a couple of km away from a station, but buses to the city (via Dulwich Hill Station) are basically right at the door. You would likely find that we'd be able to take you to most folkie things anyway - certainly the Loaded Dog. By the way, my folk club is on the first Thursday of the month, just in case you find yourselves in Sydney around that time.

Jenny

OOOH! Sounds great Jenny. It's not a big van - no longer than a Combi. We're borrowing it so I can't remember exactly what it is. The Sydney traffic would scare us even on roller skates let alone a borrowed van, but it's not big. Thanks for the offer and the dates. Cheers, Joy

Great! That size wouldn't be a problem at all. So whenever you are coming, just let us know, and you can consider our backyard your backyard for the time you are in Sydney!

Once we know the dates, I'm sure we could scare up a session for you too! Looking forward to it.

Congrats on all the accolades. I love "Joy" and I know you spread joy while here. Of course, your next American adventure needs to spend a little more time in the Northeast....

love,
Allison

Thank you Jenny. What fun!

Allison. Thank you. Yes we'd love to visit the North-east. And the North-west too. We had such a wonderful time with my Mudcat friends. Such warm and loving welcomes, such fun song-sessions.

R-J Your copy of "Still a Mem'ry" Living goes off in the post today. We're off to town shopping.

Cheers, Joy
