Subject: Lyrics for - Mrs Doran? From: Mike Ireland Date: 14 Jan 99 - 03:45 AM Hi I'm looking for the words for a song and I don't really know the title. Its one that goes great with a solo bodhran. Part of the chorus goes - Mrs Doran your son he isn't working Can anybody help? Ta Mike |
Subject: RE: Lyrics for - Mrs Doran? From: Bob Bolton Date: 14 Jan 99 - 04:25 PM G'day Mike, I think that is usually called "Goodbye Mrs Durkin, (I'm sick and tired of workin')". - a song about chucking in honest employment and heading for the California goldfields. Of course, if it were addressed to Mrs Doran ... he might be heading off for something entirely different! Regards, Bob Bolton |
Subject: RE: Lyrics for - Mrs Doran? From: Martin _Ryan Date: 14 Jan 99 - 06:39 PM I think its actually a semi-parody on "Mursheen Durkin". Was it Christy Moore? There's a web site somewhere with a lot of his material. A forum search should turn it up Regards |
Subject: RE: Lyrics for - Mrs Doran? From: Wolfgang Date: 15 Jan 99 - 03:07 AM Mike, the line you posted refuses to leave my mind. I definitely have the lyrics to that song but in my file system I need the title to find it. It is not the old Muirshin Durkin, but a modern Irish song. My faint recollection was similar to Martin's: On a Christy Moore record but not sung by Christy. So I looked up my records with Christy Moore and others (like, e.g., Iron behind the velvet) in the hope that I might recognise a title. I didn't. So maybe actually it was Christy Moore...or Andy Irvine...or... If anybody provides the title I can provide the lyrics. Wolfgang |

Subject: RE: Lyrics for - Mrs Doran? From: Mike Ireland Date: 16 Jan 99 - 03:12 AM Hi Frank me again. I've quickly checked a couple of Christy Moore sites I had linked - your correct it is on the album - The Iron behind the velvet. However 'Trip to Jerusalem' is one of the few songs that isn't scripted. Could I call on your good nature to hunt up the words when you can. many thanks Mike |

From: Frank McGrath Date: 16 Jan 99 - 08:52 PM Hello Mick Lane and Hello Mike (Ireland) McGrath All we need now is a Frank Lane to join in the chorus to confuse the bejasus out of all of us. Iron behind the velvet is one of my all time favourite albums. I hadn't played it for ages and I am now listening to it again with same thrill it gave me 20 (gasp! pause. thinks again. yes 20) years ago. Thanks for re introducing me to an old and lovely friend Frank McGrath |
