Cara playing at the Nelthorpe Arms,South Ferriby, North Lincolnshire, England on Saturday 12th November from 8.30p.m. Recently asked to leave a wake due to being "too sombre" those lively characters will be playing two sets, one of which will be new material in the process of development for a fourth CD planned for recording in 06. I hope that lovely curly-haired singer will sing some songs.

Mike Ryan

Hey that sounds great...if we don't make it, although hope to, have a great gig ...they are well worth seeing folks. Don't miss the chance if you can go!
Does Cara have a mailing list for details of gigs? If so, ask Oaklet to put us on it, please!

For those wondering where the hell this place is, then hopefully if you click on this link you will go to the location map.

http://uke.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=500000&Y=420000&width=700&height=400&gride=498707&gridn=420855&srec=0&coo

You can then zoom out to get the wider area map

Tell me Mr Ryan sir. If it is high tide, do people need to hire a boat to get to the venue!!!!!!?

Will Giant Humber Whelks be served?

South Ferriby
South Ferriby is known locally as one of the "Low Villages" nestling at the bottom of a chalk escarpment, where the chalk meets the clay to give a plentiful water supply. It also marks the point where the Lincolnshire Wolds come to the Humber Estuary and as the name suggests it is the southern site of a former ferry across the Estuary to North Ferriby. South Ferriby was once two villages, Ferriby Sluice with its strong connection to brick manufacture and other activities on the Ancholme River and South Ferribyitself with two farms which are still operational. Added to this the village now has a General Store and Post Office, garage, primary school and two public houses: The Nelthorpe Arms named after the family who, by the beginning of the 19th Century owned over half the village (and still have major holdings today) and the Hope and Anchor down at the Sluice which looks out over the wildlife of Reads Island. Employment is much diminished from the past and it is mainly a dormitory village for those who work in nearby towns. With the advent of home working this is changing and the village is popular with those looking to enjoy a rural setting with magnificent wildlife and enjoyable walks whilst remaining close to excellent road and rail links to major centres. There are currently approximately 600 people living in the village.

"Nelthorpe Arms" eh? what a cracking little boozer.Played there many times meself and indeed it is were I met the impish Oakley, who went on to do great things with "Punch The Horse" .

Nice to see the lad getting back to his roots doing proper gigs for the horny handed sons and daughters of toil. T'will make a nice change from all those girly gigs for them folkies who actualy listen to what you are doing.

Have a great gig lads, I am hoping to get to see you if I'm doing nowt.

On a sober note any one who has not seen this incredible band get yersell's down to Nelthorpe, you will be in for a rare treat.

To the Villan...multi-tasking, indeed, just stop it at once! Women have spent years convincing men that they can't do that, for a variety of reasons!

I recenlty acquired a Cara CD - I was tempted into buying it buy the sign promising "Free Whelks with every purchase" - but there were no whelks in my package!

The music however was excellent.

Now now Rockhen. You know us men can multi task, but we don't normally like to say too much about it. LOL :-)
When you see a dart player throwing his dart with one hand, holding a pint in the other, and smoking and eating welks at the same time - well that must be true multitasking :-)

Cara...ah yes, even we benighted souls in the (former) colonies have heard of (and heard) what must be the premier roots (heh!) band on that tiny island. And Oakley? Isn't he that wonderful fiddler? A boy who plays like that couldn't possibly have limp wrists!!

Wot the 'el is a whelk?

That Oakley is a murderer, he is repsonsible for the death of thousands of my brothers and sisters, however this Knobbed Whelk has plans for the dastardly Mr Oakley. In conjunction with my cousins the Lighting Whelk (Busycon Contrarium)we will zip up his trousers leg at speed which is were I come into the attack ...............

At this time of the year...zipping up his trouser leg will avail you nothing as he will no doubt be wearing his long-johns.

Long Johns would not present a problem, one of my other cousins Busycon Pulleyi Hollister has rather sharp prickles that could cut through steel (given enough time) even if he's wearing the winter damask one's in pink that he's so fond of they'd be round his ankles in seconds.

Oakley beware .... "whelks are go"

There you are then. BusyBee can't go, South Ferriby got outed as a passable place to live (with two farms and a defunct brick-making industry), I got "questionable sexual orientation" from a bloke who really should be on the stage, we found out that the Villan doesn't like something-or-other. Then Ossonflags reminded me of something really nice, me mate Chris Nightshirt popped-in to sat nice things; I remembered that I liked the Wild Wolds Women thanks to Rockhen and then we all got a bit pre-occupied with Whelks. When Art Brooks wrote what he wrote, I melted a bit (lovely man that Art Brooks) and flushed Sireen out of Stouport on Severn to say hello and I realised that Sireen is my favourite Stourport-on-Severnite. Then we found out that Banjo Flower had been missing but wasn't quite sure, that I am really quite self-obsessed and that my regard for Chris Nightshirt wasn't misplaced. Then it got a bit confused with music and that Cara's records frighten the Chinese in Shanghai, that Fibulamatic should not....well fibs can do anything as far as I am concerned - she is perfect... and that I sometimes wear longjohns. Then to cap it all, we find a plea from a village person, desparate to be liked by a lovely woman and quite rightly rejected under the control of people likely to cause unease act of 1933 (as amended). All-in all - a little journey of discovery.

Tommorrow in the Nelthorpe Arms in South Ferriby. Talk and you are outside....

Gonna tease Mello-Cello, (classically trained, you know, heehee,) about starting to introduce all our songs by humming them like you guys did...
