BOB DAVENPORT - the green banks of yarrow (Child n° 214), from The Red Haired Lad (no notes on the CD sleeve). PLEASE HELP ME COMPLETE THE 3d STANZA (and check the rest). Thank you. Roberto

There was a lady in the north
You'd scarce could find her marrow
She was courted by nine noble men
And a plooboy lad from Yarrow

One night these nine they sat drinking wine
They all swore that by the morrow
The plooboy lad he'd be lying dead
In a single grave in Yarrow

The lassie ...her plooboy lad
Of all the ... of Thurrow -
Go and get for me your father's sword
And I'll fight with you in Yarrow

He has climbed yon high high hill
And doon the tracks so narrow
And it's there he's faced those nine noble men
On the bonny green banks of Yarrow

Well, it's three he slew and three they flew
Three he's wounded sorely
Till her brother John came runnin' in
And cut him down most foully

Go home, go home, you false young man
Go and tell your sister Sarah
How bravely you slew her ploolad true
On the bonny green banks of Yarrow

And she has climbed yon high high hill
And doon the tracks so narrow
And it's there she's found her plooboy lad
Lying pale and dead in Yarrow

Her hair it was three quarters long
The colour of it was yellow
She's locked it roond his middle so small
And she's carried him home from Yarrow

But this lassie she was still but a child
And her heart couldn't stand such sorrow
And they buried her with her ploolad true
In a single grave in Yarrow

Hi Roberto,

After listening to the recording this is what I hear for the third verse:-

The lassie warned her plooboy lad
Of all their plans so thorough -
Go and get for me your father's sword
And I'll fight for you in Yarrow.

The sleeve notes, as you say, aren't much help, but I'm sure there was in an article or interview in Living Tradition or fRoots when this CD was released. If I can remember where it was (and can track it down!) I'll look it up.
