Boy, was that show a treat. Thanks for reminding me, Rita! Somewhere, in a computer I can't access probably, there are photos of that night.

The packed house was SPELLbound. But it was the doo-wop encore Elizabeth sang with Sandy that brought the house down, just in case you folkie purists get to feeling a little proprietary.

Hey, LaPrelle's, I'm not sure you know that among the happy fans that night was writer Lee Smith, and her husband. I hope/think that you all will find each other again someday...

Dani

PS: I saw your niece recently: she's getting big! PM if you come for a visit, I'd love to re-connect.

I hope, if any Mudcatters get to this concert, you'll let us know about it. And, be sure to let Elizabeth know you're there if you get a chance. I think she'd love it.

Yeah Barry , she is mellowing; at 18 she has a much bigger repertoire, and sings with more artistry and feeling than ever (well anyway since I've known her, i.e since summer of 2003). When she and Sandy sang at Takoma Park Folk Festival in September they got a standing ovation.

Chaarrllliiieeee. She's more than good, now, she's top shelf already, alright. She'll be through the roof soon enough.

I may not be as big a supporter of her as Rita (whose one with a perticulary fine sense of taste, maybe I'm #2 fan) is but this young woman is not yet near to her full potential yet, she's still mellowing within her age, when she's ripe you'll know it, mark my words.

Barry

We can offer overnight space in north central PA if anyone is trying to get to/from Erie. We're near where 6 & 15 cross, just south of the NY border. PM for details.

Certainly wish I could be there but I'm stuck in Maine. She's good now and I look forwqrd to hearing what she'll be doing in the years to come.

Cheerily,

Wish I could be there too. It's not to often I hear somebody sing & within the 1st few lines has knocked my jaw off it's hinges, she's does. She's such a nice human too. I think she was 15 when I 1st heard her & it's a joy to see her getting the recognition for her talent & her personality (off & on stage). She's bound for glory. I'm not gonna say she's a new Jean Richie or an Almedia Riddle or another Hazel Dickens cause she's not but I'll bet she'll be sitting in their company in no time at all. See her if you can, she's a gem. Nice to see that such a head liner as Roger McGuinn is closing for her.

What else can I say?

Go see her! She's the talented daughter of a talented family. (Okay, John, so you don't sing -- I could listen to your non-story telling stories all day!)

Well, I know a lot of Mudcatters know Elizabeth and her family by now. She even gave a concert at Dani's restaurant. But if you'd like more information on who she is, what she sings, and why she's worth listening to, take a look

here.

There are sound bites, a bit of background, and lyrics to all the songs on her CD.

This may be redundant if you looked at the web site, but Elizabeth is a freshman at William and Mary's this fall. She has already done a guest appearance on A Prairie Home Companion, sung at numerous festivals, including a conference on "Disappearing Cultures" in Banff, Canada, and published her first CD. And she just turned 18!

But none of this, and really no words, can describe Elizabeth's rich voice, her mastery of Appalachian singing styles, or her liveliness and presence on stage. You just have to be there. Her concerts are so much fun! I hope some Mudcatters will manage to get to this Mercyhurst concert.

Elizabeth has quite a wide repertoire....she likes MUSIC...but the old songs are special, and she treats them with respect and makes them come alive.

Do not miss a chance to hear Miss Elizabeth. And pick up her CD, Rain and Snow, while you're there. An amazingly talented and unaffected performer of mountain songs and ballads.

Some of you have heard our daughter, Elizabeth LaPrelle, sing ballads and songs of the Southern Appalachians. We thought we'd let Catters from Western PA and Northern Ohio know that she's opening for Roger McGuinn at a concert in Erie PA this Saturday. The concert is part of "Great Lakes Aid" and will be held at the Mary D'Angelo Performing Arts Center at Mercyhurst College in Erie PA. It starts at 7:30 pm. Hope some of you can come!

Sandy and John LaPrelle
