I used to like Myspace until you had to wade through a barrage of adverts just to find your own site - no I din't want to become "part of the Michael Jackson experience" thanks.

Didn't MySpace lose ALL the song data that existed on the site a couple of years ago..?
I had a page (now deleted) that had around 10 songs, but they were All deleted when MySpace made a large change to their system.
There may be newer data that was loaded since this disaster....

voices from the past - some sites are still there (a bit different to what I remember, I think) others can't be found.

I've often wondered how scammers locate these old threads

And look! One I haven't seen before from the late Mudcatter Jed Marum. A friend behind him (Don Wall) took some videos of Jed at a holiday performance at the library where I worked, if you ever want to search for some well-filmed and edited videos of Jed.

Most of that is probably on YouTube (which I am viewing on Firefox because Chrome has locked me out, even though I shut down the ad blockers). Search on "Mudcat Cafe" has an interesting array of results. This link goes directly to the videos in a site set up by (I think) Dave the Gnome.

So is this the official thread to post our links to myspace? It's kinda fun and interesting to see what/who else is out there, but it definitely has some technical shortcomings. I can see how this might be useful to performers for networking and an easy way of getting one's own website. Anyway, our band is at:

and then there's this view of "My Space"!!!

" .... MySpace .... represents a cyber trojan horse and the media elite's last gasp effort to reclaim control of the Internet and sink it with a stranglehold of regulation, control and censorship.
Since Rupert Murdoch's $580 Million acquisition of MySpace in July 2005, it has come from total obscurity to now being the 8th most visited website in the world, receiving half as many page hits as Google ....
.... What most .... remain blissfully unaware of is the fact that MySpace is Rupert Murdoch's battle axe for shaping a future Internet environment whereby electronic dissent, whether it be against corporations or government, will not tolerated and freedom of e-speech will cease to exist.
MySpace has been caught shutting down blogs critical of itself and other Murdoch owned companies. They even had the audacity to censor links to completely different websites when clicking through for MySpace. When 600 MySpace users complained, MySpace deleted the blog forum that the complaints were posted on. Taking their inspiration from Communist China, MySpace regularly uses blanket censorship to block out words like 'God' ....
.... It is a foundational keystone of the first wave of the state's backlash to the damage that a free and open Internet has done to their organs of propaganda. By firstly making it cool, trendy and culturally elite for millions to flock to establishment controlled Internet backbones like MySpace, Murdoch is preparing the groundwork for the day when it will stop being voluntary and become mandatory to use government and corporate monopoly controlled Internet hubs .... Max,

I've had a page on MySpace for a while. I've not yet been able to make it work to my advantage completely but like most of this online stuff it requires having a lot of free time to both hunt and peck away. The time I can alot to such tasks varies.

my page

Visit my myspace at http://www.myspace.com/gutbucketeer

I've uploaded two songs. More are on the way.

Also, be on the lookout for old kazoos and tamboriines in need of repair. A little birdie told me that there's a new company that makes them sound real good :-)

MAX -

I think you have struck a stroke of brillance - Athena's Owl perhaps, alighted on your head after the accident.

SELL

SHARES

of http://www.mudcat.org/threads.cfm

Negotiate that perhaps, Dick and Susan get 10% each, you get 30% and post the remaining 50% on the "pink sheets."

You would have income for the servers, Dick and Susan would receive reward for their original genius.

My suggestion is 100,000 shares with an IPO of 10.00 (US each) most REAL mudcatters (1000 of them) would by in for a minimum of 100 shares each.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

A great alternative to My Space is Woven Wheat Whispers, who are happy to host demos and biogs which are then offered as free downloads.

Hey Max, $600mill, I'd sell my chocolate collection and Limpit for that!

Had no luck with UK postcode though... or maybe it just doesn't like where I live.

Looking for the holy trinity? It would have to be Pene Azul.

And no, I will not accept a nomination for Joe Offer. He's got a big enough head as it is.

Sorry for the creep.

This was a fast growing independent site that ended up being bought by Rupert Murdoch for almost $600 million earlier this year. One could argue that it's slow and buggy because it uses exactly the same technology as mudcat. Just to warn you all, I'd sell to anyone for $600 million.

Yeah...it is rather a kick.

Mighty youngish....but it is a key-hole insight into a whole different world. An education in diversity.

Anyone playing this game? It's a buggy site, but it seems to do wonders for us locally. They index shows by zip code so it serves nicely to alert locals and fellow bands of your presence. I've met some other vital acts fusing the old-time genres with young energy, which I like a great deal.

You can see my myspace space here.

Not for everyone, but as a struggling artist, every little bit helps, and this one does for me.
