Happy Birthday!

Writer of many Paul Bunyan stories and these immortal lines:

As I sat down one evening,
        'Twas in a small cafe,
        A six-foot, seven waitress
To me these words did say:
        I see that you're a logger,
        And not a common bum,
For no one but a logger
        Stirs coffee with his thumb.

                "Frozen Logger"

James Stevens

was born in Albia, Iowa,

15 Nov 1892
(died in Seattle on 12/30/1971)

[thanx Seattle Times, Don Firth and especially Stephen Kiesow, librarian, Seattle Public Library]

(Obviously, this is not the Irish folk-writer/novelist. He was great.)

Peter John Welding was born 11/15/1935 in Philadelphia (died 11/17/1995, Altaloma, CA.)
He was a friend, scholar, teacher, journalist and significant preserver of the Blues - especially Chicago style. Founder of Testament Records.
