Hello Bruce,

Yes, I play lute. I'm a re-enactor, therefore I don't have much choice! ;-) Be happy to PM you, join up & drop me a line...

R

If you wish to try learning some lute tunes without the outlay of buying a pukka lute, try a guitar in EADF#BE tuning, which is the common set of intervals for six-course lutes and adjacent six courses of seven course lutes. Capo 3, GCFBbDG, sounds right somehow.

That's where I stopped, sounds authentic enough for me on classical, don't need the authentic instrument for visuals. I would also require a lefty lute custom-made. Very expensive for, in my case, a toy.

I'd love one, though.....

I remember a recital many years ago when the same performer played both Lute and (Classical) Guitar. The tone was quite different, and the Lute was noticeably better (Fuller, rounder) than the guitar, in my opinion.

Maybe due to the shape or the doubled strings?
